Edit Blog Post
Hello again!!
This computer is really good and the photos upload in record time (although I dont have many for Sucre anyway) so I thought i might as well do a quick blog for Sucre while Im here! :o)
We got to Sucre, capital of Bolivia, early evening and stayed at the cheapest hostel recommended by the Lonely Planet but was more expensive than we had paid anywhere else in Bolivia but breakfast was included so decided to stay there! Things started typically well...... i manged to electrocute myself within 5 minutes of being in the room (its always me!).. all i did was stick the bedside table lamp in the socket and the whole thing exploded and electrocuted me! ouch! :o( The beds were reaaaaaaaally umcompfy and breakfast was absolutely disgusting... just mouldy bread! So we decided to switch hostels and moved to Pachamama (mother earth!) which was just around the corner, a bit cheaper and really nice - had our own room and private bathroom, they had a lovely garden and a hilariously insane dog and the owners were really lovely so we were really glad we moved!
I think this blog might actually be quite
short because we didnt really do that much in Sucre! We spent the first morning sorting out our bus tickets... we couldnt for the life of us decide how long to stay... I really wanted to be in Buenas Aires for the 4th for my volunteer project meeting (getting to know the others etc.!) but we quite wanted to have one last night out together to celebrate halloween! In the end we decided we would stay longer and spend halloween there (its quite big in South America apparantely!) but only Marieke could get a bus ticket on the Saturday, there were no buses to Argentina for safety reasons (all the drivers would apparantly still be drunk from halloween!!)... not sure why that didnt matter for some bus routes though! So we booked our tickets for friday afternoon!
The next few days we just spent wandering around... we both quite liked Sucre... it was a lot cleaner, there were lots of lovely parks and plazas and amazing buildings! We had a couple of yummy meals, went to the cinema to see Sex in the City and that was about it really! We planned to go out on our last night
together but Marieke had a funny tummy so we had an early night instead! There was the most amazing thunderstorm id ever seen on our second night there..... the thunder was so loud that we both jumped out of bed.... thought it was a bomb! It lasted for ours and everytime we thought it had moved away and we tried going to sleep again, there would suddenly be the biggest bang and we would fall out of bed again! hehe! :o) There wasnt really that much to do in Sucre! There were lots of horseriding day trips etc but they were really expensive! We also could have gone to see dinosour footprints which i thought was quite cool but apparantly youre not allowed near them anymore and have to look at them through a telescope and apart from that it was just lots of big fake models and info about dinosours which we werent really too bothered about, although it would have been cool to see the footprints!
On friday afternoon we went to the bus stop together and it was time to say goodbye - Marieke is off to Venezuela and I got the bus to the border
and then another bus to Salta! I had a little cry as usual hehe... was just sooo weird... id really gotten use to having her around everyday! We had such an amazing time travelling together, shed have me in fits of giggles and I dont think we had a single disagreement which is probably quite unusual when you spend 24 hours a day with someone for 2 months! :o) It was also weird to be going on a long bus journey again on my own as ive always managed to find someone to drag along with me the last 3 months, but it was fine! :o) (Apart from the fat man next to me who couldnt keep on his own side!) The bus journey was a bit of a nightmare though... there was no toilet on the bus (again!) but luckily we kept breaking down which gave us all a chance to dash ouside for a wee! :o) Although I managed to get a million thorns in my feet as i couldnt find my flipflops and didnt want to waste time looking for them incase i missed my chance and we didnt stop again for another 10 hours!! :o) I
ALWAYS lose my flipflops on the bus.... ALWAYS!! I had to cross over the border from Ecuador to Peru in bare feet (and it was quite a long walk over!) because id lost one of my flipflops somewhere on the bus... but luckily we found it by the time we arrived in Peru! :o) Oh well... its not everyday you cross a South American border in bare feet! hehe! :o) Anyway.... then the border crossing (stamping the passport on both sides etc!) took so long that i missed my connecting bus and had to wait 2 hours and get a non-direct bus instead and change in junjun and the bus was SOOO expensive! :o( But anyway... i got to Salta late afternoon so it was all fine in the end! :o) Oh... and highlight of the bus journey.... a couple of hours before we got the border, i woke up and realised that the couple across the aisle from me had a tiny puppy which i was allowed to play with!! sooooo cute! :o)
Rightyho.... im getting a bit bored of the internet cafe now so ill have to love you and leave you!! Im in BA now and
absolutely love it.... made lots of fun friends and the city is amazing! The only problem is that its sooooo expensive and nobody here sleeps much because its normal go for dinner at midnight!! :o)
Lots of love and hugs xxxxxxxxxxxxxx
