The Erechteheion  
   

The Erechteheion

was built from 420-406 BC at the most holy site of the Acropolis, where goddess Athena planted an olive tree, her sacred symbol. The tree was later destroyed by Persian invaders. According to Greek mythology, following the expulsion of the Persians, the tree miraculously sprouted again.
