Wildfires above Cusco

The hills above Cusco burned this week, including the archeological area of Tambomachay. The winds were blowing the fire away from town, which is good except that the wind took the fire directly into some of the best queuña forest in the region. Queuña trees are very important habitat for birds but are also endangered because of invasive eucalyptus trees.

Sunday, 4 October, 2020 205 days since Covid arrived in Cusco 30 weeks and I’m still in lockdown with an 8pm curfew?
