We made our way from Mandalay to Bagan winding down the Irawaddy River for twelve hours on a triple decker river boat. It wasn't a luxury liner, but it was clean, comfortable, and more than adequate, with a cafeteria, airplane style seating area, and three sun decks. But what made this trip ever memorable for me, and many others on the boat as well, I believe, was, once again, the music experience. I believe I already mentioned in my previous entry that Stan is the best music manager ever. Well, he did it again. Early on the trip, while chatting it up with some of the other travellers, he met a professional musician from Germany, and suggested that he should play a few tunes with his wife. Shortly after, both myself and my travelling guitar Ramblin' ... read more

When we arrived into Mandalay from Bangkok, its tiny airport reminded me a little of Regina's airport years ago, before any of its renovations. Hot, dusty, dry, and impoverished, the city itself felt a little desolate, at least at first, before we rented bicycles and toured around. When we did, we noticed immediately the vibrancy of its people, particularly when we went through the market areas. Without a doubt, a favorite memory for us will be the "music caravan" experience. The music caravan consisted of three trolleys of very old school stereo music equipment - huge speakers, CD players, microphones, and such - which were being pushed through the streets by at least a half dozen men. One of the men - the singer - was singing a Burmese tune in Kareoke style - to a ... read more

Geo: -21.1151, 55.5364Reunion is a small island half way between Madagascar and Mauritius and it is a French territory, so the difference between it and Africa is huge. All the road signs (decent roads) are exactly as they are in France. I hadn't realised it was French and therefore forgot to bring euros which is the local currency. Although it is modern and clean there is still a high unemployment rate as there is no heavy industry and very little agriculture.Sugar cane is the main crop as well as coconuts and fruit. A cyclone had hit the island 2 weeks previously and brought down all the fruit. However usually it is not as green as we saw it thanks to all the rain. The island is volcanic and is younger than Mauritius. We were taken by ... read more

Aw...gotta love the day at sea. Truthfully, we did not have cheeseburgers the entire time...I guess I thought it would be a cuter title than "Day Two" ... then again I guess I could quote another Jimmy Buffet song "It's 5'Oclock somewhere" as a catchy, yet, cliche title. Anyway, I did not realize until we had gotten back that I did not take any aerial view type photos of the ship. No pics of the decks or pool or pool slide....aw well. I think Im trying to get away from the era of "take a pic of anything" type days just to document my entire second on earth... Plus I think in the grand scheme of things, some people do not want to scroll through 1,000 pics of mine to look at a trip they did ... read more

Dále navštěvujeme Prasat Neang Khamu, Prasat Chen, míjíme vodní nádrž Rohal a konečně přijížd... read more

Po několika desítká... read more

Geo: 19.3086, -81.2521TUESDAY, 1/7/14 – Tuesday morningAnne and I walked down the road to the end of the peninsula beyondthe Kiabo Beach Bar to an area called Starfish Point. Road access tothe area is blocked by a locked entrance gate that leads out to thepoint through what appears to be an abandoned development. Parkingat the circle at that entrance, you can walk to a “public beach”on the north side of the road and then up the beach to the area wheremany starfish frequent the sheltered waters near several short, man-made breakwaters extending from the beach. We walked up the beach, taking lots of pictures of the starfish, then, as we rounded thepoint, saw a good many boats either anchored or beached along theshore. Many of the tour operators include Starfish Point on theirschedule and that is what ... read more

Geo: 19.3086, -81.2521Friday, 1/3/14 – We drove to Atlantawhere we met LeeAnne and family and David and Sonja. We all checkedinto the Days Inn near the airport where we parked our cars for theduration of the trip and used their shuttle to get to and from theairport. The motel was one of the poorer Days Inns that we havestayed at over the years but not too bad for one night, and the ratewas pretty good. We went to dinner with LeeAnne and family at anearby restaurant in the Country Inn & Suites, then back to themotel and bed for me. SATURDAY, 1/4/14 – Ate a quickbreakfast at the motel, then caught the 7:30 AM motel shuttle to thenew international terminal at the Atlanta airport for our 10:00 AMflight to Grand Cayman. Geo: 12.5329, 104.205Ráno vyrážíme směrem k Floating village s cílem najít tam nějaký homestay a přespat tam.
