Oceans and Seas » Atlantic » North Sea September 2nd 2017

I decided to splurge on breakfast and had fried eggs and sausage Sharon had scrambled eggs and toast , again eating in the Lido because the dining room wasn’t open that early. It was a beautiful day on the North Sea, and in the distance we could see and endless array of oil rigs at sea that just seemed to follow us south. It was pretty early in the morning for Team Trivia, especially for a non-scenic-viewing sea day! What’s with this 9:00AM anyway. Then Christina told us that people often ask for Trivia on the last sea day but her schedule is so full she can only do it a 9. There was only one other team present. Christina wanted to know “Who painted ‘The Scream’”? The answer was Munch. And Steve knew who the ... read more

Day 3 – Hi Fun on the High Seas (North Sea Adventure) After mass I met Sharon by the Half Moon and we went to the Dining Room for breakfast. I ordered some Swiss muesli and the veggie frittata with a potato cake and some sausage. Sharon had French Toast with a double order of hash browns. After we spotted the Sudoku sheets in the Explorations Lounge on the first day, which are impossibly miniscule, added as an afterthought to the Cross Word Puzzle sheet, and it’s just the Easy Puzzle, we are probably going to skip this ritual. We’ll have a somewhat leisurely day today, not having Bingo until 10AM. I got us a spot in the Queen’s Lounge for Bingo. I showed up way early. Sharon was out and about again. She bought today’s ... read more

Somewhere around March the team were looking at China prices, Da Niece Ellen was going to China, inaugural flights for Sichuan Airlines were around $300 one way , starting July, fly direct from Auckland. We should get in on that KK, time for a little adventure. Chengdu China, why? Price is grwear, got to start somewhere. Gate way to Tibet, which we both want to see, a few contacts due to our association with Hamish and the network he has created and a bit of a challenge. Took another couple of months to press the buy button, finally relying on an old mantra dug out of the cupboard “the Lord will provide.” I felt a need to spark up my wee friend’s existence after having cheerily looked after, cajoled, kicked, cooked, cleaned for the somewhat miserable, ... read more

Geo: 23.637827, -83.147212 Today was our last day at sea. Once again we slept in. This was our last day on the cruise. I got up before Nikki and went and sat on the balcony. Nikki packed and then we got ready to go to breakfast. We at in the Solarium Bistro today. Then we were off to play Trivia in Schooner Bar. This was general trivia and it was really difficult. After trivia we went up to deck 15 to get in the pool for a while. It was a beautiful sunny day and it was nice just to relax in the water. Nikki wanted to sit in the hot tub as well. The hot tub is against the window overhanging the side of the ship and it has an infinity edge so it was ... read more

We took the morning at a snails pace. We had decided that we were going to skip breakfast today because we were so full. We headed down to the Royal Promenade to do a little shopping and then wandered the ship until Johnny Rockets opened for lunch. Once they opened, we had an early lunch. After lunch it was time for Star Wars Trivia in On Air. We did pretty well for only knowing about the first three Star Wars movies. Trivia was followed by sitting on the balcony of our stateroom and then getting in our swimsuits. We stopped by Schooner Bar to play Broadway Tunes trivia before heading up to deck 15 to swim. We spent time there before heading down to get ready to dinner. Dinner was in 150 Central Park. We had ... read more

We took advantage of not having to be anywhere early and slept in. I was up before Nikki and sat on the balcony and played on my tablet for a while until she got up. After getting ready we decided to head to the American Icon restaurant for breakfast. Then we went to Scooner Bar to play Entertainment Trivia. It was fun but we are not quite as adept at general triva knowledge as we are at Disney trivia. We hung around the ship for a while not really doing anything but being lazy. Lunch was in in Park Cafe where we had sandwiches and salad. Then it was off to another trivia game, this time in On Air and was Movie Quote trivia. We did pretty well this time but still didnt win. We were ... read more

Lisbon 19th June Our last port of call, and it was going to be so hot. I know it's hot back in the UK and we are looking forward to having some sunshine at home. The weather has been mixed on this cruise, but has come good since Lanzarote. Lisbon's high was to be 34 degrees C and it was!!!! So just a few pictures, including some from Tenerife and Lanzarote where we didn't do much. The gardens on Tenerife we have been to before, particularly the Orchid Garden on the other side of the island. Lanzarote - we've done the camel rides, been up Timanfaya and Manrique too so again it was a quiet time on the ship. After all this is a holiday!!! As for Lisbon, it would have been nice to go up ... read more

Southampton en route to Madeira 10th June 2017 Well here we are again, on board the refitted and slightly refurbished Queen Victoria. Our cruise is taking us to an overnight stop in Funchal, Madeira and then onto the Canary Islands visiting La Palma, Tenerife, Gran Canaria, Lanzarote bore heading home via Lisbon. The cruise is themed to take in the Flower Festivals in Madeira and the Canaries. Queen Victoria has had a major refit since we left her on the 5th May. The major alteration is the new stern, where the stepped decks have been straightened. As one Cunard employee said, she's got a bigger 'bum'. Internally, there is a new restaurant, and a reconfiguration of some of the bars, but the extra space up in the Lido pool area is the most significant change. New ... read more

Oceans and Seas » Atlantic May 3rd 2017

Our 5 days at sea began after leaving Miami headed to the Azores. This is the 3rd time we've traveled this route so we're well prepared for potential choppy seas. This is our favorite time of the cruise to catch up on sleep, read some new books, and enjoy the amenities of the Norwegian JADE. 2 days into the leg, we did encounter some 15 foot seas and a few squalls which tossed us back and forth a bit, but nothing too miserable. It does tend to thin out the passenger population a bit and confine some of them to their staterooms. We enjoyed the live entertainment, a few of the specialty restaurants, and of course the 24 hour buffet!... read more

Geo: 12.53, -70.03This morning, we skipped breakfast but were in line at the BBQ station about as soon as it opened at 11:00. We wanted to be finished and ready for our shore excursion early. The ship pulled into the harbor at Oranjestad, Aruba at noon. As soon as we saw land coming up, Philip jumped on his laptop to see if he could get a connection through the local phone service. It worked and he got some work done before we had to leave for the tour. It worked well enough that he was confident he would be able to get everything done when we returned in the late afternoon. He had thought about taking his laptop on the tour since the bus provided free Wi-Fi, but I am glad that wasn't necessary. We left the ... read more
