(Day 144 on the road)After two and a half wonderful months spent in China and zig-zagging almost the entire country in that time, the two days spent on the ferry to Japan gave me a good chance to reflect. I am fascinated by this beautiful country, so I have compiled a short list about what makes this country special for me. Also, on one of my last days in China I had received a few nasty and threatening comments on my blog from Chinese people who had read my blog and apparently were not happy about some of the entries I had made. I was careful all the while to not turn my blog into a political journal. Of course there are quite a few quarrels one must have with China - things like the totalitarian ... read more

Geo: 44.8048, 20.4781After a long, suffering over night bus ride, we arrived in Belgrade at 8am . It had a very different feel to it than Bosnia and Croatia. We didn't waste time any time and headed straight to the hostel. It was a bit of shame that we couldn't check in yet. So we hung around the common room which was in the basement- nice and cool too! The guy at reception warned us that today was going to be a very hot day, near 50 degrees. After we cooled nap and had a little snooze on the lounge we ventured out into the heat. It was unbearable! We managed to drag our feet to a little unknown place called McDonalds. It was one of those times where you just want to go somewhere where ... read more

For anyone reading this, please bear with me. I'm going to be publishing blogs at random for a bit. They will jump around, and most will not have been written at the entry date. Coming home is a tough thing. Your adventure is over, and you're dying for you own bed. You've met (and re-met) all sorts of great people. You've had new adventures, seen things you never though you would, and, for better or worse, done deeds you did not think possible. Both the good and the bad. The consequences of both are still not known. As for Monkey, he was there for the good, and fortuneatly absent for the bad. He's asleep in the seat next to me. Probably dreaming of Puffins, Minke Whales, Arctic Terns, Eider Ducks, and lots of cows, sheep and ... read more

Oceans and Seas » Caribbean August 13th 2008

Just got back from sailing in paradise! What a great trip, we left out of Brooklyn, NY on the Caribbean Princess. It was a HUGE ship with way too many people, but everything was great, the food, the atmosphere, the entertainment! My sister and I buddied up with some crew members from Bulgaria, Macedonia, Australia, Canada, and England, everyone was hilarious and let us in on the fun all over the ship. We stopped at 4 ports, San Juan Puerto Rico, St. Thomas, Tortola, and Turks and Caicos Islands. Gorgeous places, San Juan was full of history and culture. We ate at a real Mom & Pops type restaurant with delicious Puerto Rican food and homemade sangria :) In St. Thomas we I took a ferry to the Island of St. John and did an ... read more

Geo: 43.8607, 18.4214We started the day off with a tour of the war time tunnels. The city was in a siege for over 1400 days. The war time tunnels were how the city survived. Our guide was amazing. We were lucky enough to have a mini-van to ourselves. We started our Tunnel Tour by driving down Sniper Alley and then onto the house near the airport where the entrance/exit to the tunnel is. ... read more

Geo: 43.8608, 18.4214It was about a two hour train journey to Sarajevo. Seats were not allocated and we tried to elbow our way onto the train- like the locals did, but we wasted time trying to get seats altogether. So we missed out on seats, instead we shared 3 seats between the 7 of us- taking in turns. It wasn't too bad. The scenery was amazing. Luckily our carriage had entertainment, a group of local guys with a guitar and lots of beer. When we arrived in Sarajevo the majority of the group wanted to walk to the hostel, I was not impressed. The tram at the train station would take us straight to the hostel- it could have been so easy. So we started walking, we didn't follow the tram tracks, no we followed the ... read more

Geo: 43.34, 17.81Today was our last day in Mostar, having seen most of the sights we decided to catch a local bus to a nearby village that we read about in the guide book. After waiting for 45 minutes at the bus stop in very hot sun, us 6 girls gave up and decided to spend the day relaxing in Mostar. We had a long lunch, very tasty and local cuisine. It was a really nice restaurant, outdoor table in the shade of the warm sun- so good. We then went down to the river to wet our feet, the water was so cold! From here we took our last photos of Mostar. Then went for our last wander through the old town. AJ, Rebekah, Shona and I arranged to meet Clare and Celeste at the ... read more

Geo: 43.34, 17.81What a busy day! Firstly with an early start- we had to leave the boat by 10am, which was a struggle for most of us. After our goodbyes, myself, Shona, Andy, AJ, Rebekah, Clare and Celeste went to the bus station to wait for our bus to Mostar.... read more
