Rainy rain rain! Yesterday was another washout. I don't want to blame Nelson itself, but the prospect of staying here and working for a few months no longer sounds exciting to me. Maybe it's the weather's fault, maybe I'm just too impatient and can't wait to get traveling again, but whatever the reason is I was really glad when Shaheen walked in yesterday morning and confessed that she was having doubts about staying here as well. So we decided to throw out our tentative plans (after all, they were only tentative) and see some more of the country before settling down for a semi-permanent job. We then spent most of Wednesday afternoon in the lounge with a big map of the South Island, a Lonely Planet, and notes with recommendations from all of our friends and fellow travelers that we've met along the way. We came up with a general plan to head south along the west coast until Greymouth, take the train through Arthur’s Pass to Christchurch, and then loop around the rest of the island in a clockwise direction. We also have a pretty good idea of the major stops we want to make along the way, although I’m

sure those will change as we go along.

We also got in touch with some people from an organic farm in Hope (about 20 minutes south of here) about WWOOFing. It looks like we’ll both be able to work for accommodation there for a week or so starting Monday. Yay, our first NZ job!

Today the sun finally came out! This morning we took advantage of the dry weather to run a bunch of errands. We also booked a kayak trip in Abel Tasman National Park for tomorrow. It sounds awesome (kayaking/hiking/seals!) so I really hope the weather holds up for us. After lunch we caught a local bus to Tuhunanui Beach and spent the afternoon there. It was a really interesting beach. It was really flat so you could walk really far out into the water without it even coming up past your knees. You could see mountains from there too, and Oystercatchers, and cool rock formations. We decided to walk back to Nelson and the views on the walk back, which took about 40 minutes, were awesome.
