jenronApril 1st 2007 Seeking a walk we headed for Cable Bay along a picturesque road no far north of Nelson. The bay is beautiful. After a coffee and scone in a splendidly set cafe we climbed steeply up the local hillside for astonishing views back over the inland bay and out to sea. The climb was one of our steepest recently and tested our lungs and hearts especially in the hot sun, which has again returned - although only a few miles inland the clouds capped the higher peaks. It was very satisfying once we had descended back to the valley floor for a brief rest on the pebbly beach. (Called Cable Bay because this is where the first undersea cable from Australia (and the rest of the world came ashore).
