Mot to Picton

Australasia » New Zealand » South Island » Picton By jenron
April 1st 2007 Said a sad goodbye to Richard and headed very early to Havelock with the intention of catching the mailboat on a tour of Pelorus sound. Due to cock-up due to out-of-date Lonely Planet book missed the intended boat and instead headed to Picton to catch the afternoon mailboat around Malborough Sound. This was a good trip. The scenery is magnificent and it is interesting to see the mail being delivered at the remote wharfs of houses far from any road. The weather had improved enormously. We booked into a hostel at Picton right on the waterfront and enjoyed fish (butterfish) and chips and a couple of pints in the local Irish bar.

We'd just dropped off mail at this remote quay.
