We spent the rest of the time camping up north at Davies bay, near Whangarei Heads. We had superb weather and enjoyed swimming, walking along the beach, fishing, snorkelling and enjoying chats with Murray’s extended family. We ate so much freshly caught produce, fish and crayfish, we were well and truly spoilt. Murray’s extended family have been camping together for over 30 years, mostly in this spot. An amazing tradition that was a pleasure to be apart of. Thanks to the family for welcoming us, our kids ran around in bare feet, were in and out of family tents, had babies constantly on their hips, chatted, swam and were “kiwi” kids for a NZ summer. Murray and I do miss this type of experience for our kids, things we treasured in our own upbringing.

Straight back into Term 2 at school in Switzerland, we were welcomed home from NZ summer to snow on the ground. Bring on the ski season!
