The weather was still not great today in Taupo so no crazy extreme activities were taking place. Guess thats what you get when you come to NZ in autumn. Or maybe its global warming or something? Anyway, very annoying as plans have to be changed!

We checked out of our hostel in Taupo and went to a coffee shop for a while to shelter. After the bike ride from hell yesterday, all 3 of us were aching and had pain in our ischial tuberosities! Had to get some physio talk in somewhere or i'll forget it all.

At 2:10pm we left Taupo by coach on route for Rotorua. It was about an hours journey. As soon as you enter Rotorua, you know you have arrived by the smell of rotten eggs that is everywhere! Oh my god, it really is strong. Thats Sulphur Dioxide for you, not pleasant. Rotorua is a city built upon volcanic ground - no wonder there is bubbly mud pools and steaming lakes everywhere! Seriously, it feels like this place is about to errupt any second!

We checked into our hostel, called planet nomads which is really nice, and went for a walk to the local thermal areas. They are everywhere, steam out of the drains, peoples ponds, back gardens etc. We walked to Kuirai Park and saw all the bubbly mud pools - has to be seen to believed! We walked on through a traditional maori village and saw the traditional carvings and then on to a place called 'Sulphur Point' - this point absolutly stank, i can't even begin to describe but it is called sulphur point for a reason!

In the government gardens there is the hottest bubbling pool, called Rachel Springs, which bubbles away at 212 degrees F. A little too hot to take a dip we thought!

Tomorrow, we go to Waitomo caves to see the cute glowworms!

Those maori carvings look a bit like characters from "The Simpson'S"!!! Real cartoon art, not really Leonardo, is it!?! In fact they look crap. See how "equal and diverse" I am, heh he...I respect people, it says so on my certificate. Well, at least you can fart away at sulphur point, without worrying about other people's noses Lisa, bonus since you are a veggie. When are you going to post topless photoes of hunky men on your blog?
