The Sand Dunes off Ninety Mile Beach
Well what have we been up to in the last few days i hear you ask....Well kelly and i are still living, breathing and sleeping in this frigging van. I woke up with her hair in my mouth the other morning and every night we go to bed we open the sun roof of the van and gaze at the stars together- how romantic.

So we have now driven up to the tip - Cape Reinga and seen the Tasman and Pacific oceans meet which was special and then drove down the motoraway and pulled off to surf the sand dunes and some sandunes these were. We all felt as though we'd stepped into the desert. James hired a board and surfed down them. Also visited ninety mile beach which is actually 56 miles long (no idea so don't ask)- you can actually drive it but we decided against it as there have been many horror stories about cars dissappearing into the sand and to be honest as this van is our life we wouldn't have anywhere to sleep if we lost it :)

Anyway we then visited the Waipoua Forest with the biggest and the oldest Kauri trees- apparently the forest is on fire at the mo but we managed to avoid it. The girth on the tree was unbelievable!! I quote lonely planet.

We then drove and stayed in Auckland last night and then today we went to the Waitomo Caves and got on a boat in the cave to see the glow worms and then visited another cave- they are huge. Nearly ran out of petrol down this long road, which was quite scary.

Visited lake Taupo where it absolutelly pelted it down so we hired a room for the 3 of us, to be honest it was quite a luxury eating with stainless steel knives and forks. We then went for a long walk and jumped on a ferry across to Orakei-Korako which was full of thermal pools and stank of sulphur and then James decided to go on this Huka Jet which pelted it up and down the river.

We then drove for miles across to Wairoa and stayed there the night which was full of hill billies- they were unreal and think we ended up staying in a gypsy camp but we were asked to pay so at dawn we flawed it out of there to Gisbourne which is where we are now (oh i think it's called the sunshine state) yeah right it's pissed down since we arrived here but we are still wearing shorts as the trousers are definitely not going back on.

Anyway that's it for now hope you are all well.
