I am staying at http://www.haheiholidays.co.nz/ and its not too bad. Pretty much portables with lots of beds. Sort of like work camp bunks i expect...except without toilets in the portables.
Well cathedral drove is amaaaazing, as long as you get there early or are there late. People tend to come down around 1030ish, and it gets pretty busy. Lots of opportunity for pics. I got up this morning at 8:00 when my bus left (as i had requested to be left an extra day), and spent the day meandering down to cathedral cove. Last night we had a BBQ, and hung out. Not much to do here, but enjoy the scenery. However it did get cooler last night. thank god. It was the first time in a while it dropped below 25 degrees. I actually had to make use of the fleece i bought. I felt happy and justified for the purchase and lugging it from auckland. It has proven itself now.
The PC here is coin operated a nd has no attachment for usb so i cant send pics of the beach back, but maybe next stop. I was going to go kayaking here, but i think i will save my money and use it elsewhere. Also, there are left overs from the BBQ last night so i am going to use that as my supper tonight..mmm.. protein. BTW the steak here is nothing like steak at home. Every steak i have had has been pounded flat and covered in BBQ sauce. just like in OZ. Everyone says that people here love their beef and BBQ, but they have nothing on canadians (not to mention the states). Sorry everyone, but in canada the steaks have to, by law be thicker than .25 of an inch, and they have to have some form of fat on it. lol

Anyhow, im off to hang out by myself on the beach (and avoid the sun).

Here is the itinerary for tomorrow... maybe i will learn to surf.

Day 2.
Travel Day: Hahei to Raglan.
Depart 8am. Optional stop for the Tairua trig walk then through the Waikato (famous for its cows), and on to the world renowned Raglan surf beach. This afternoon you have the option of lying on or exploring the beach, a bush walk around Mt Karioi, or the outstanding local option of surf school (surfboard, wetsuit and instruction for all levels included). Tonight’s accommodation is in a lodge surrounded by native bush near the beach. The optional meal and bush sauna are strongly recommended.

finally checking out travel blog
Sounds like you are having a wonderful excrsion/adventure. Makes me envious. Perhaps when we retire....if we are willing to rough it and not want 5star accommodations. Great pictures! You may be missing some things from Canada ie. perogies and steak. When you get back home, it may be comfortable, but it could be rather tame and boring when routine sets in. Denise---another aunt
