We have to say that We have to say that our decision to travel to almost the top of NZ was certainly the correct decision. The beauty of this place is overwhelming. We had a prize position in the Holiday Park in Russell, the view of the window of the van was fabulous. We looked out over the bay with yachts and boats drifting past in the clear blue water, the sun was shining (not a cloud in the sky) and individual islands everywhere.

Nancy has asked me to relate to you what happened when we first arrived at the Park. We had booked in at reception and were driving to our site when Nancy issued this almightly shout STOP. Nancy had seen a family of Californian Quail, that was both parents and 7 tiny little chicks wandering across the path in front of us. We were memerised. This was not the only bird we saw that day, we saw Pukeko's and several others l can't remember the name of.

Russell is known in NZ as the Romanitc Capital of the Bay of Islands. It is small in size, has many wooded hillsides and some lovely little beaches.

Among the many things we enjoyed about Russell was certainly the scenery but also the very friendly people, the very nice old fashioned houses and the food. Nancy reckons that the meal she had last night at the Gannet Restaurant was the best she has had in NZ. Nancy has very stong views about food in NZ and not all complimentary.

on the second to last day in Russell we went on a full day cruise aroud the Bay of Islands. Well if you were here the very least thing you can do is to go and see the Islands. The vessel we went on was the mail delivery service and so visited of the larger inhabited islands. One of the highlights of the cruise was a trip through the 'Hole in the Rock' which is situated at the very edge of the Bay and was created by the weathering of the Volcanic rock. It looked like a large cave which extends right through this large Rocky Outcrop. The actual rock is called Piece Island and was We have to say that our decision to travel to almost the top of NZ was certainly the correct decision. The beauty of this place is overwhelming. Nancy has made some serious charges against me which l totally refute. Nancy alleges that was l drunk last night after consuming a full bottle of wine in the Gannet Restarant. Nancy also alleges that l was having terrible problems posting the latest set of postcards in the letter box, further she also alleges that l was very chatty to all the other customers. These charges l completly deny. Why? I can't remember. If l can't remember then l can't have done. Can I?

Anyway we could have stayed here for a lot longer but off to Auckland we go in the morning.
