I promise that this blog will be shorter than yesterdays.
Slow start for the morning. Trying to air out my cloths, my hostel room still stinks. I can’t wait to find a permanent temporary housing situation. Those vacuum seal bags work like a charm. I pulled out a pair of pants that I’d not taken out of the bag since packing it down in Teresia and John’s basement apartment they smelled so nice. I contemplated wearing them around my neck like a scarf to enjoy the full benefits of the restful aroma. T & J didn’t we have a great time?
Put together a list of ideal flats in the neighborhoods I’m looking at, and sent out some additional enquiries.
The day was too perfect to be distracted by something like house hunting. I went walking and found the Winter Garden. The winter garden is two large green houses and a large outdoor fern garden. Plants that typically flower in April and May back home are just starting to flower.
Air temp outside 16 degrees Celsius, not a cloud in the sky, and very little wind.
Had rice and hamburger gravy for dinner
(yummy).
Met a Taiwanese flight attendant at the hostel this evening that had spent the day traveling with the German that I’d went to the Cuban bar with. She said the funniest thing about him. I guess every time she asked him a question his response would begin or end with the phrase “I don’t know”. Along with his tone of voice, demeanor, and accent every time he said this phrase she though of him as a little boy. I had to laugh, but explained that I thought it may be a language/accent barrier.
Anyway it’s getting late (11:30pm) I need to wrap this up and get it sent out the door.
Cheers and best regards.
PS: Below is the outline that I am using when sending email enquiries to potential flatmates.
Professional male (age) from the States. Here for a minimum of 1 ½ to 2 years (living arrangement does not need to be this long). Employer is an international construction consulting firm with their NZ corporate office in Newmarket. Prior international travel experience; so I won’t be getting home sick and taking off on short notice.
Very adaptable, knows when to have
Tulips In August
Just like Chicago in April fun and when quite is required. Very clean, respectful of people’s property and space, non smoking, social drinker, no drugs. Looking to take advantage of the recreational activities that Auckland and NZ has to offer. Prefer to live with longtime Kiwis, but would not have a problem living with non New Zealanders. Would like to get to know my flatmates better but I do want to do my on thing. I wouldn’t mind some parties, BBQ, comedy night, concerts, or a night out on the town together. As far as cooking arrangements I can go both ways (fend for myself or occasionally cook for the group).
