Definitely Down Under

Spent our first couple of days in Auckland. Its a beautiful city and such a contrast to Lima! Fresh sea air, warm but not humid, and it feels totally safe. Expensive though...but then Peru was very cheap so it feels even worse. Picked up our car and now up in north at bay of islands. Its very scenic and warm. Took day trip to Cape Reinga today.….the northern tip where pacific meets Tasman sea, and you can actually see the different colors where the two oceans meet. Such a contrast after Peru and the amazon, which was fantastic and such a culture change. Feels much more like home than even Australia, except of course its daylight and warm!! Going on a dolphin watch cruise tomorrow (how civilized & touristy is that)..but want to appreciate all the islands & marine scenery here before we head south to see rest of north island.

Always ready to try something new, had another first today. Sand dune surfing. Belting down a steep dune on your belly on a surf board...almost the same adrenaline rush as the first straight line 'schuus' down a ski slope! I refuse to grow old gracefully! I had 3 goes.….the walk back up the dune for the 3rd time was testing but I needed to work off last nights fish supper. Finished day by having another fish supper..well its very good here, and very fresh. exciting dune surfing pix to follow (once I suss the technology!).
