Thursday April 27th - Part 1
Bula from Fiji!
Big day ahead of us, as today we’re leaving Fiji and headed for Los Angeles, specifically Beverly Hills.
Real early start today, Jason got up around 5:30 still very tired, and took a shower outside watching the sun rise (really cool!) The kids got up around 7 am, to catch our 8:30 flight. The nice thing about being here is the airport is a 2 minute walk. We can bring up our bags, and when we hear the plane land we can walk up to the airport to get on, infact the guy at the airport called us when the plane was getting close. It turned out the plane was delayed until 10:30 am, which was ok, as Wes, Kirk and Paulina headed town the road to pat Wataki’s pigs. Jason and I headed over to Coconut Grove to order breakfast to go, and by the time it arrived at the house the kids were back. We all ate up, and then it was time to say goodbye. It’s not fun leaving such a nice place, we truly have friends in Fiji, Maureen and Sireli were fantastic hosts, Vika was such a nice friend to our kids. After a tearful farewell, we were off, with Vika walking us up to the airport. It was blazing hot. We said goodbye to Vika, and boarded the plane, this one a little larger, maybe 20 seats. The plane ride has one stop in Suva Suva, on Vita Levu. We fly in, and all disembark, and the pilot informs us he’s going doing a couple of training flights with the new captain… so we wait for him to do a couple of takeoff and landings… certainly strange holding training with passengers waiting… ah well Fiji I guess. Anyhow our bags get back safely and we board the plane, headed for Nadi. The flight is about 45 minutes and I think the new captain did his first “real landing” with passengers aboard, as it made most of us on the plane quite nervous. It looked like we were gonna crash! Anyhow, we did land safely. We decided to store all our bags at the airport, as our flight to LA isn’t until 11:20 tonight, and it’s now 12 noon.
First stop is McDonalds for Wes. He’s happy now, and then we head off to a place called Jack’s Handicrafts. What a store, with every kind of gift imaginable from Fiji, from pens to furniture. This place has it all. The prices are a lot higher than on Taveuni, but we still manage to pick up a few things.
After Jack’s we head out to Toka Toka Resort, which has a nice bar and a huge pool. We just walk in, and they give us towels and we get free use of the place, so Kirk and Wes head off to the pool and slide while the rest of us order some drinks. The kids spent about 3 hours in the pool getting tired. Its dinner time now and we order up some stuff from the restaurant, which was really good. Wes wants more nuggets so we grab a cab, and head to McDonalds. I’m not sure what the drivers’ problem was, but he was a crazy driver, those nuggets almost cost our life lol. We get the nuggets and head back to the airport. No tip for the crazy man. We grab our bags and check in for the flight. The flight is fairly uneventful, with the really strange thing happening is as soon as we left Fiji, the date changes, we now in Wednesday at 11:20 pm. We fly and fly arriving in LA after 10 and ½ hours, arriving there at 2:30 pm Thursday, some 10 hours before we left Fiji.
