Australia is a land of wonder. You can visit it over and over again and it will never cease to surprise you. Its beautiful vastness is guaranteed to leave anyone breathless. The concept of Australia is particularly interesting as it’s not compact at all. It’s either a big urban metropolis or a complete wilderness, and even that wilderness has its subcategories. This is why even the most contrasting sceneries can be found in this one country.
This is exactly what fascinates me the most about Australia‒its wild natural beauty and, at the same time, the opportunity to step into a whole different world of urban structure whenever you feel like taking a break from the wild. Basically, Australia can cover almost any type of trip one could possibly want. Whether you’re searching for an adventure, sightseeing, seaside vacation or spa relaxation, the answer is always Australia. Not to mention the variety of plants and animals, which is also extremely interesting, especially for visitors from afar. In that respect, take a look at these Australian routes and choose the ones you would like to take depending on your free time and preferences.
Launceston to Hobart, Tasmania
Tasmania is definitely one of the places anyone visiting Australia should see, and this route allows you to explore all of Australia’s best features. During your road trip, make sure to see The Bay of Fires, which is about a 2.5-hour drive from Launceston. This place is truly amazing; white beaches and clear blue water including a great color contrast of rocks painted orange from lichen are truly a sight to see.
The Great Alpine Road, Victoria
Being one of Australia’s best food regions, Victoria is a great place for you to visit if you need to put on a few extra pounds. Even if you don’t, it’s still worth a visit. Start from Beechworth, Myrtleford and Yackandandah, after which you’ll be moving on to Bright, then Harrietville. Continue south until you reach Omeo and Bruthen. When you find yourself in the proximity of Bright, make sure to see Mount Beauty and absorb the amazing view. This route is also one of the favourites for cycling, there is a rail trail connecting Bairnsdale and Wangaratta, so you can skip the busy main road and just enjoy the scenery. Considering the length of the road you’ll need quality gear.
Get your hands on the
renowned shimano mtb shoes and durable protective gear and you're good to go. And if you get tired you can always catch the train at the next stop.
The Coral Coast, Perth to Exmouth
In order to properly do this road trip, you’ll need to set aside at least 10 days since this route is full of amazing sights such as The Pinnacles, a national park filled with unusual yellow stones which will make you feel like you’re on the planet Tatooine.
Kalbarri’s wildflowers is another eye-candy on your route. Basically, you’ll have an amazing view of the combination of beautiful turquoise sea and red soil throughout your whole trip.
Outback Central Arnhem Highway
This one is a real thrill since you’d be driving through the middle of nowhere with hardly any gas stations on the way. It’s a road of approximately 700 kilometers, so unless you are properly equipped for this hardcore trip and good at calculating the amount of gas you’ll need, don’t count on anyone helping you on the road since you’ll probably be all alone in the Outback.
The Pacific Coast, Sydney to Brisbane
This road trip is typical of Aussies from New South Wales. Since you’ll be driving along the coast, it’s a great chance for you to take a few detours through some small towns on the beach and use this opportunity to get some rest, have ice coffee on the beach and go swimming if the time of the year is right. When you exit
Coffs Harbour, you’ll find a B&B with an outdoor spa and beautiful gardens, so you can stay here for a night or two. This route is also great for a cycling road trip, just bare in mind that the country roads that were empty a few years back are now bustling with traffic.
The Savannah Way, Queensland
This road stretches from Cairns in Queensland to Broome in Western Australia and is 3700 kilometers long. Some of the spots you definitely must see include wonderful Millaa Millaa Falls, fascinating Undara Lava Tubes and Boodjamulla National Park. Visiting the falls is an amazing opportunity to take a swim and see the strange but unique platypuses, as well as enjoy the view of the water and the rainforest that surrounds you.
