hey there!! it's been again a while since i wrote, and again i've seen sooo many great things, that i dont know where to start!!! i'm in darwin at the mom, leaving to the milinguimbi islands in a few hours..looking forward to that aboginal experience!! but before i start talking about that, just let u know how my trip has been going since alice springs (by the way, bea, Anni's was a great place, specially the girl's toilet!! haha good pictures of that!!)
We did our trip from alice to darwin (more than 1500 km) in 3 days. The group changed again. this time most of the people were pretty joung which was really cool. pretty funny: there was an Austrian girl ho was bilingual german-spanish, just like me! dutch, enlish, scottish, germans, swiss...a little bit of everything. we had lots of fun, even if the driving this time was veeeeery intense. we had hours of not seeing anything but bushes or trees. no cars. no buildings. no nothing. flat land...pt the famour Stuart Highway, the one that divides OZ in twoo parts, starting in Adelaide. We kept on doing lots of stops (almost every hour and a half..)
the flip flops tree in Daily Waters Pub
and mine are there aswell!! do u finde them? One of our stops was at the DEVIL'S MARBLES, a group of rocks with very interesting shapes. It was really hot when we got there, and the heat was even coming out of the rocks which made it more...mmm..well, the explanation for this rock formation in a very simple way is the following. The world is a ball. in the middle lots of lava, that started to make its way up to the surface. on its way up, the lava cooled down becoming granit, and cracking. the water of the inland sea (Australia used to have a huge sea in the middle, a looong time ago) that appeared thousands of years later found its way through that cracks. When thousands of years later the sea dried out and the ground level startes to erosionate, the southern and the northern underground platforms started to press against each other making the rocks come up. because of thouse cracks, the stones broke and all this strange forms were created due to the erotion of the rocks, the wind, the rain...really impressive to see round rocks on top of flat ones...
we continued our trip, this time we started seeing small termite mounds between
climbing up the rocks!!
thx danny!!! :) seemed to be easier when u saw others do it! the grass..and it was getting greener aswell. Well, our accomodation was in the cattle station of Banka Banka, with more than 65000 cows (!! vivan las 300 vacas decasa grande de xanceda!!) and the territory of this cattle station is bigger than Jamaica!! we had a cinema session with a presentation of the cattle station, which i found extremly modern for being in the middle of nowhere!
the next tday we stopped at the DAILY WATERS, a very famous pubbecause of its absolutly great decoration...it has been decorated by all the clients, drivers, tourist, whomever who passed by...u can find everything hanging everywhere...from bras collection, to flip flop trees, pictures, ids, passports, maps, tshirts, money, anything u can imagine of...i did my small contribution: my old flip flops are hanging on the flip flop wall!! yeah, i left my small mark there!! 😊
we also had a swim in the mataranka termal pools (next to the rainbow spring), nice warm but refreshing. the heat and the humidity started to rise pretty much..well, and the third day we did our canu-trip through the KATHERINE GORGE, which was amazing. not on.ly because a little bit of sprot was great, but
yeah, swimming next to crocodiles!!
at least these dont attack...well, they are not supposed to... also because of the maginificen rocks on both sides of the river. really nice. Freshwater crocodiles are supposed to live in this river, but we did not see any. Anyways, these are not supposed to be interested in eating humans, so we had a great swimm in the water! it was only 9 in the morning but it was very hot! We also had a swim afterwards in the Edith Falls, a nice lake surrounded by cliffs with a waterfall in the very end. my first swimm ever under waterfall!! really nice!! great massage!! oh and my bikini got open bc of the strong wate-pomping on my neck!! hahah but tha's another story...
We got to Darwin around 19h, raining. Darwin doesnt seem to be very big, 2 or 3 floor biuldings, not many people around. The great thing was that because it was sonjas (the german girll i've been travelling with since melbourne) bday, we got upgraded!!! we got a double room, with ensuite (private bathrrom), sheets and towels!!! oooooooh, i didn reallize how much i missed some nice soft towels!!!! absolutly great!!! and a normal bed!!! brilliant!!
well, so far so good!! and too easy, as
Rainbow spring
a natrual spring...look at the colour of the water! we use to say during our trip!! hope u enjoy the pics, and for those who actually really read this (i suppose the less), thx!!! 😉 un bechiiiimuygrande a todos!!!
