12 hour bus ride
The flies were the worst - literally swarming on our food every second in the Outback. The hikes were really beautiful though. The first morning hike was straight up a mountain at 5am, 3km long. Everyone was sick, coughing, and wheezing. We went to a waterhole and swam which was so refreshing. We saw a really cool moss garden – you could write your name in it, but we didn’t because John Hall says that’s disrespectful to the nature. We saw cave paintings and climbed through a narrow water/rock stream, trying not to touch the “lava” aka water. I slept under the bright stars every night. I’m not going to lie – sleeping was rough. I woke up every night around 2 in the morning freezing my ass off even in long underwear, double socks, and a sweatshirt. The days were brutally hot too, which was strange. The temperature extremes in this country are insane. The last night we all put thumb prints and our signatures on everyone’s field books for memory sake. We had a talent show and since there was no piano, I said the alphabet backwards really fast. After 3 full days in Carnarvon, we went home on
