Departing Cervantes for the final mobile leg of our journey was a relief although a little bit more dangerous because with a long weekend beginning today hundreds more vehicles are on the roads exiting Perth, one of which came very close to hitting us near Lancelin.
Our first stop of today was at the Yanchep National Park, there are a variety of activities here including caves and indigenous displays but we decided to give these a miss. We did however go view some very sleepy Koala and go for two kilometre walk around the lake.
Our next stop was the Aquarium of Western Australia at Hillarys Harbour, it was extremely busy and we couldnt find a park for a motorhome so we thought initially that we would miss out. My gps had other ideas and lead us to some large empty carparks on the opposite side of the marina. A short walk later and we were at the Aquarium which is one of the best I have seen. The highlight being the touch pool where you could handle some creatures including the Port Jackson shark.
On departing the aquarium the gps soon led us to our caravan on

Yanchep National Park Perth's Swan river, we just relaxed for the remainder of the day. The next morning we were on the local bus into the city, which is nice enough if a little desolate in some parts on a sunday. Perth has at least four free bus routes around the city which allows a traveller to get a good idea where things are, we initially took the blue route from Barracks rd to the Museum which had a couple of good exhibits but was woefully small and poor for that of a major capital city.
It was then back on the blue bus for the loop around Northbridge as I wanted to get my bearings there for my birthday pubcawl the next day, before hitting the central shopping district in an attempt to appease my beloved wife. Next we took the yellow bus to West Perth which was a ghost town, here we entered Kings Park, at first we could not understand all the hype but eventually we found our way to the lookouts, the lovely botanical gardens and the Lotterywest Federation Walkway. The sun in this part of the world always seems to be shining directly on me so after
Sleepy buggers
Yanchep National Park all the walking I was relieved to take the free bus from the park to the city where we transferred to our bus home. If I have a complaint about Perth it is the lack of pubs and cafes compared to other cities I have visited.
My birthday dawned with the rain which will hopefully bring down the temperature, I slept full twelve hours before rising and getting washed and dressed. Ruth and I bussed it into the city around 11am and visitedsome shops before take the blue bus up to Northbridge where we met Mark at the Brass Monkey to begin my pubcrawl, I used to do one every year still I started going away on that day. The Brass Monkey was cavernous and very expensive $10 plus beers appear to be the norm here. After three beers we moved on to the Rosie O'gradey for a pizza and two more beers before moving on to the Mustang a huge cavernous bar where we had more beers and munched on free peanuts while playing six or seven games of pool. We then moved up the street to The elephant and wheelbarrow for the last drink of the day
A Kookaburra
Yanchep National Park before crossing the road for a kebab at the Istanbul Kitchen. I lost my phone some where between the restaurant and the caravan park.
This morning we caught the bus to the city then the ferry to South Perth to visit the zoo which had a really good collection of Australian, South east Asian and African fauna. I was particularly interested in the small marsupials which because of the overcast conditions were all active, the numbat, tasmanian devil and wombats were a highlight as was the nocturnal house. The Sumatran tigers, sun bears, orangutan, small monkeys and the lemurs were also excellent as were the enclosures. Ruth purchased some items from the shop as we departed, we then had lunch before reboarding the ferry back to the city.
