Edit Blog Post
It's been a while since my last blog as we haven't really been up to much touristy. The weather hasn't been too great so we've been trying to dodge the rain and on the good days we've tried to go somewhere new.
We spent an afternoon driving around the Avon Valley which is a real picturesque region to the east of Perth. The area is named after the Avon river in the UK, although here they pronounce it Av-on (instead of A-von). Some of the views are stunning as you can look out over the valley and the rapids running through it. It was also the first time that I had seen the red dusty earth that Australia is famous for. Unfortunately my photos didn't come out very well and just don't do the area any justice
We also visited The Vines which is apparantly a very exclusive golf course and country club which is ranked number 8 in the world, and number 1 in Australia. Although some of the properties were amazing, the most exciting thing for me here were the kangaroos; big groups of them were just lazing around actually on the golf course and were quite
happy for you to get really close to them. Seeing Kangaroos up close really has been one of the highlights of my trip so far; I love them!
On Monday we took the ferry from the City over to South Perth. From here you get awesome views of the city skyline as well as the WACA (the cricket stadium). We walked along the shore and stopped for lunch in The Boatshed; a lovely restaurant on the front where we had fresh prawns. I don't think I have ever had so much seafood in my life as I have had since being in Australia; in the last five weeks I have had so many different variations of scallops, mussels, squid, crab, lobster, prawns and fish; all of which have been sooo good (and you know how I love my food...)
Yesterday the weather was gorgeous so we decided to take a trip to Cottesloe Beach. This was my first real experience of the ocean since being in Australia and it was everything I expected it to be. The beach is beautiful; clean white, fine sand and the ocean is so blue. After having a walk along the beach we
stopped for lunch in yet another restaurant that over looked the water and served amazing food. It was so lovely to spend the afternoon sitting out in the sun drinking wine listening to the sound of the ocean. I can't wait for winter to be over so that we can spend more days like that!
Not much else to write about for now. We have booked a trip to Broome to see the "staircase to the moon" which is an optical illusion which only happens at certain times of the year. We're going in 3 weeks so I'm really looking forward to that, especially as the weather in Broome is meant to be really warm - I can finally start working on my tan!!!!
Lots of Love, Louise. xx
P.S I had a lovely day celebrating my 26th birthday although I never want to see a piece of cheesecake or mudcake again!!!
