Alright, this week was a long time ago, and the minute details of it have since been lost. I know I went to class, and skating, and I did have an informal oral presentation. That pretty much sums up Monday-Thursday.
Night out with Gloria! So when I was on my search to find a place to live in this suburban jungle, I got to meet some interesting person. And then I ended up living with a couple of them. When I met Gloria I remember her saying that she wanted someone like me to move in. She'd always been living with (no offence or racism intended, you all know it's true) anti-social asians who kind of kept to themselves. So what has resulted is that she doesn't get out much.
So I intended to put a stop to that! I was busy around the time of her birthday (that was during the skating camp...read a few weeks back if you're interested) so I post-poned the birthday celebrations. But on Friday, May 4th, only about a month after her actual birthday, we finally found the time to go out! We decided to go see a movie, and since
Dafne and Gloria finally settle on some Italian food
Notice the Italian ice cream place across the street... we were both fans of dancing movies, we settled on "Stomp the Yard". Luckily it was playing in Fremantle, which is quite close to where we live. So we both got all ready to go and headed out for dinner and a movie.
We wandered the streets of Fremantle trying to decide where to eat (hmmm should we go for that Italian place or THAT Italian place? Or maybe THAT Italian place over there?) In the end we chose a nice Italian place which was nestled between two other identical Italian places. I had some delicious pasta while Gloria had some steak and then we headed through the miriad of Italian restaurants to the movie theatre.
When we first walked into the theatre, there would two other people there. That was the sort of crowd I was expecting, and I immediately started joking about how there was nowhere to sit, and how we should sit right in front of them. But then I had to eat my words cause people actually showed up! Like it wasn't packed, but there were people! In the theatre! To see "Stomp the Yard"!
Anyways, I don't want to give away too
much of the movie but basically it's a movie about black people who participate in this dance that's like a cross between marching and hip-hop. And of course we have our troubled young man and he of course gets his girl and there are some actual interesting plot developments but really the best part of the movie is watching this very bizarre type of dance (which in gangsta is called "stomping the yard"). Gloria and I left feeling inspired so we "stomped the yard" all across Freo, the smell of Italian food filling our noses.
While in the theatre I'd seen this sign that said if you showed your movie ticket at Timezone, an arcade in town, you'd get $10 of playing for the price of $5. What a deal! So we went and stomped the yard around the arcade. I masterfully played some skeeball, we challenged eachother to some foosball, and we generally had fun and made fools of ourselves. Good times. In the end we'd won some points which could be redeemed for prizes. Gloria got some game thing and I got a beach ball! It's super-awesome.
Anyways we went home on the last bus
of the night, where I tried to blow up the beach ball but struggled. When we got home we "stomped the yard" for May, our other housemate, who couldn't make it out with us. Some other time...
Fitness Testing Sunday I had a fitness test for skating. I'm getting fitter! Which is good news. That pretty much concludes my exciting week...
