The celebration never stops...
And remember that the real winner is and will always be lawn bowling... I've gotten way, WAY behind on these entries...time to play some catching up! I just returned from a 10-day trip to the Northwest so I've got lots of stories and LOTS of pictures. But first let me pick up where I left off...
Monday to Wednesday Monday I helped out with an exchange fair at Murdoch. I got my own shnazzy badge and I had the task of representing all of Canada, even though my knowledge of the other schools on offer (SFU and UVic, which are both on the other side of the country, and the elusive Algoma University-College which is apparently in Sault Ste. Marie but which I hadn't heard of until I got here) leaves much to be desired. I started off alone but then Gen, my skating coach, showed up to help out! She'd been on an exchange in the US but their table was full (damn Americans) so she decided to help me out. Then I was joined by a fellow Canadian from SFU who was able to offer a little more insight on the schools from out West. Even though we had been told to wear t-shirts from our home school, us Canadians were the ONLY ONES who did so! Apparently that's only cool in Canada.
The highlight of the whole event was talking to this guy who dreamed of studying Math at Waterloo. He's in Math at Murdoch but says Australia is reeeally bad for Math, and that he'd heard Waterloo was one of the best. I took one look at him - hair unkept, glasses, awkward demeanour - and knew he would fit in BEAUTIFULLY in the Faculty of Mathematics at Waterloo. I can see him now, playing D&D in Comfy...
Oh and one funny side note, the German table was completely un-manned even though I know HEAPS (eh? eh? Australian lingo!) of German exchange students. My guess: they were drinking beer.
Training Camp!! My Easter Break officially began at the end of my Water Auditing Class on Wednesday, but I had little time to relax. For six days - from Thursday to Tuesday - I went to the rink for Infusion's synchro training camp with none other than Lisa Darken, coach of the World Junior Bronze Medallists, Chicago Jazz. It was a really good camp, although there were times when her coaching style directly contradicted our own coaches. But mostly she was an AMAZING help, and she managed to choreograph our ENTIRE long programme in just 6 days!!
On a side note, my blisters have since healed. But the pain, the pain, was UNBEARABLE at the time.
And on a side side note, the World Synchronized Skating championships happened to have been on at the same time, and wouldn't you know it, both Canada and the US got medals! So we were both happy.
And although this is outdated, I would like to say one more WOOOHOOO to NEXXICE who took the Bronze at World's!!!
One more thing... I did do one more thing during the training camp. One of the girls on my team, Kristy , had her birthday on the Saturday of our camp. So she invited all the over-18-ers on the team to join her for a night out. We went to the C Restaurant, Perth's revolving restaurant. We all got all dressed up and had a great time. Afterwards, Kristy and Danae took me for a drive through King's Park, the huge park in Perth's city centre. It was dark, so all we could see were parked cars, some of which had people inside... I need to go back there in the day (it's actually kind of a shame that I haven't been there yet *covers eyes*).
Pictures?? Hmm...I don't seem to have any pictures for this entry...But that won't do! So I'm attaching the HILARIOUS poster that was put up all over Murdoch by the sports director. He even gave me my very own which is now up on my wall (so far my UWA housemate hasn't noticed...although I SINCERELY doubt she'd care).
