Monday to Thursday Morning Not much to report on those few days...Had my oral presentation in my water auditing class...
Thursday morning my excitement was that I went FLYING off the end of a pinwheel at synchro! It was actually quite fun, as Kristy put it I fell on "soft bits" so I left with only this itty bitty bruise on my elbow. And it remains a joke AND a teaching lesson. "Remember, the middle of the wheel DOESN'T MOVE or we'll lose Dafne again!!" Good times...
FILM FESTIVAL!! Alright so I think I'm all in with the film festival crowd. I volunteered at the Toronto International Film Festival, and now I've attended the slightly less publicized "City of Melville and Murdoch University International Film Festival"!! It was pretty good, cause every morning at 10AM they showed a movie for FREE!! So Thursday I headed down to campus to see 'Fanaa', an Indian movie. Oh man, it was so good! Like it started in typical Bollywood style, lame plot, hero and heroine fall in love and are going to get married. But, ALSO in typical Bollywood style, just when you think the movie's gonna end (cause it's been
going on for 90 minutes and has reached a sweet ending) BAM!! You got PLOT TWIST!! And this one was GOOD!! I won't spoil it, in case some of my readers are behind in their hit Bollywood movies. But seriously, the second half of the movie was...enjoyable for its plot and not its ridiculousness...It's a rare feature in a Bollywood movie. Definitely one of the highlights was the intermission, when all the white people were confused and I got to explain that the movie would be continuing. The girl behind me was shocked to hear these movies last about 4 hours - although this one actually only lasted 3, which is quite short for a Bollywood movie.
Anyways, moral of the story - go see Fanaa!!
Friday I headed back again for the last free movie of the festival (I'd missed 2 because of classes, and the Saturday matinee wasn't free). This time it was a Mongolian/German movie called "Die Hohle des gelben Hundes" (The Cave of the Yellow Dog). I got the wonderful atmosphere of school children from aprroximately grades 4 to 6. Cheap field trip, I guess. They were fairly well-behaved, it wasn't so bad. And
Answer for Anna
Anna, you wanted to know what kind of birds those penguin-like birds were...well, I found out! In case anyone else is interested in reading about them, here's a brief story. the movie was really good! It followed the life of a nomadic family in Mongolia. The main charater is Nansal, the oldest daughter in the family. One day while out herding the sheep she finds a stray dog and brings him home. Her Father doesn't want to keep it, because he fears it lived with wolves and that the wolves will follow him and kill all the sheep. But Nansal refuses to give up the dog. It's a really cute movie, there are three children and they're all SO CUTE!! And it's interesting to see the life of a nomadic family.
All in all, a successul festival! Although I miss the glitz and excitement of TIFF (Toronto Festival), you can't beat the free admission and no line-ups.
Perth Zoo Originally, I was supposed to go to Wave Rock on Sunday. But, mostly due to low attendance and partially due to Murdoch messing up, the trip was cancelled. So I consulted my list of Perth attractions, and decided to go to the Zoo!
It was a fun day, saw lots of cute animals, and did some investigative research for my project investigating the Perth Zoo sustainability project. Take
a look at all my awesome pictures for more stories...

Hey Daf! Thanks for the answer. As always I got a few laughs out of your weekly update. Haha the intermission for the Bollywood movie; I imagine it was amusing. About the TIFF, I was considering volunteering last year but got too busy around that time (early Sept, right?). Was is a great experience? Perhaps I should do it this year... The Bird Pond is beautiful. Is that a giant and old Palm tree on the right? huuuge
