This is on all the trains. I laugh everytime! Well, it was a long long fantastic weekend for me. Dramatic for the rest of the household...
So Friday evening when I got home, no one was around. Some lady knocked on the door, cigarette in hand and wanted to know if Su was home. I told her that no one was home and to come back tomorrow or I could leave a message. I guess she was the neighbor. She tried to acuse Blair's friends of stealing her motor bikes. She rambled on for about 10 minutes and I'm thinking... "This isn't getting you anywhere... I don't live here, I don't know what the hell you're talking about... sorry you lost your bikes, but I don't think Blair took them". She finally left. I passed the message on to Blair and Su when the got home, and Blair kind of just laughed it off. Su was irate. She had good reason, but I've never seen her so upset. The next morning when we were leaving she went over and gave the lady her two cents, haha.
Friday was the day I went to the Zoo. It was such a great time! I had no troubles getting there, though
I thought I would because I've only ever used the train. I had to catch a bus this time around after I got into Perth. But I made it and enjoyed the zoo so much! It wasn't much different from any other zoo, I guess. But the Kangaroo's just hop around freely. They're on one area, but they aren't caged in and hope around the entire "Bushwalk Australia" exhibit. It was fun, a couple hopped right by me. I was so happy. I posted some pictures, I think those will tell a better story than I could write.
After the Zoo it was still early so I headed into Perth city to try and find some gifts and just wander. I wasn't ready to go back home yet. I ate lunch on the Swan River 😊 It was awesome. Then I headed into the city. I found some neat gifts!! One that will crack up the person it's for. I guess there's not much to say about it, there are a million and five stores and everything here is so expensive, so I'm just trying to get some gifts for my family and just use Australia as my gift.
I finally headed back home and hit the hay. I was exhausted!
Saturday I woke up and ran, and it started pouring 😊 It was awesome. Until the lightening started coming and thunder. When I got home the storm just kept getting worse and worse. I guess it was one of the worst storms Su has seen around here... I thought it was a pretty typical storm for being a Michigan girl. But there were some houses in a nearby city that got roofs blown off and fences blown over and what not. Pretty ridiculous. I was kind of upset because I was planning on going into Perth again to walk King's Park. Instead I went to the grocery store with Su and helped her get some things. We came home and started preparing dinner. It was a new Curry Chicken recipe that she was trying out. It was so different from anything I've ever eaten; for her too! It was good, but the flavors were so unique and crazy. I copied the recipe down and hopefully I will try to re-create it when I come home.
Then she made me make a carrot cake. Well, she asked
if I would and I said yes. Problem: She doesn't own measuring cups! (She bought some the next day!). So I tried to eyeball everything and just hope for the best. It was for some BBQ her daughter was having the next day, which she ended up inviting me to. (I was waiting until my plans with Annette and her son, Harry were made before I said yes for sure). Well, the cake started out looking a little shaky in the oven, but ended up looking alright. So, I just hoped it would taste good the next day!
Sunday I woke up at six to go to the markets with Su to get her fruit and veg for the week and also to look and see if I could find any unique gifts. I didn't find any gifts, but I always enjoy going to the markets. I bought some fruit to take to work. While I was out Annette called and asked if I still wanted to do something, I said yes. She said she changed her mind and wanted to go hiking instead of meeting with her friends. I said "HELL YES!" I had been wanting to hike
since I got here. She picked me up, then Mark and off we went.
I don't remember the name of the trail we hiked, but it was super short. Only an hour and fifteen maybe. No climbing or obstacles or anything! But it was still nice to get out into the bush and finally see some.... burnt trees? I guess a brush fire had gone through awhile back and so all the trees were crispy looking. But it was still cool, until I almost ran face first into a big spider. Eek! It was a little creepy. But after calming down a little and taking a photo, the spider was pretty. I just didn't want it on me!
We stopped at a tavern for lunch and then we decided to go to Canning Dam, which is up in the hills. It was fun to drive up there and walk around again. The picture's are the best! It was gorgeous.
After that I came home and ran and ate dinner and went to bed super early.
Monday, today... I woke up super early... to Su on the phone. I guess last night/this morning Blair was driving over
to a mate's house and someone threw a brick through the window of the car, Su's car. A very nice new toyota corrolla. So Blair stopped, and the kids just bashed in the car and Blair got into a fight and there was an ambulance... things like that. So, when I woke up all I knew was that the windows in the car were smashed and the car was somewhat beaten up. I also heard that there was a fight and they didn't know if the kid was alive because "Blair is strong". So, I tried to go on about my day because today was "Ocean or Bust!" day. And there wasn't anything around the house I could do to make things better. So I figured I'd just stay out of the way.
Well, I made it to the Ocean, jumped in, sat in the sun, swam for awhile, sat in the sun and then mosied around before leaving. It wasn't as cold as I expected. And the sun felt really nice. Everyone had their dogs! And they all were throwing balls into the water for them to fetch, it was so cute. I loved it. And this week
Rhino
He was so cute and weekend coming is supposed to be really nice so I'm planning on going back next weekend and staying longer probably. I was so exhausted. I AM so exhausted. It's 7:40 and as soon as I finish this I am going to bed.
This week is going to fly by. I go in tomorrow-friday, but it's exam week so I'm sure things will just fly. And then I'm half way done! Good and bad. I really do miss home. Summer is usually my visiting time with the people I miss while I'm at school, and now I don't get to see them or my family. I am having fun though and trying to focus on things here.
It was such a good weekend. I got to explore and see and do things I've been wanting to do and it made me happy that I was here. For the first time I was actually smiling and just laughing to myself "Megan! YOU made it to Australia! You are having fun and doing something that you always wanted to do!" I think finally hiking and jumping into the ocean made things so much more real. Until then I didn't feel
like I was outside of the states. Everything felt the same. So, I'm glad I didn't volunteer for anything this weekend, I think it's exactly what I needed to realize what an opportunity this is for me.
Well, with that, I am off to bed while you're all just starting your mondays!
Goodnight!
Love,
Megan
