We hit Coral Bay where Ningaloo Reef is to have a look at the boat tours they do. Opted for the turtle Eco tour which sounded pretty cool! Our boat didn't leave until 12.30pm so we borrowed some snorkling gear and headed for the beach! We had a good hour snorkling, it was Lou's first time snorkling but she loved it I think - hurray we have a convert!! The reef itself is very large but it is lovely, so much colour and lots of different fish! kept an eye out for those deadly stone fish! ha ha! Lou, Suzi , Kim and me all went on the turtle tour so we all went to the beach first.
Can I just take this time to let you know that the sea is flipping freezing over here!!! You get used to it once youre in but really have to keep moving once in it otherwise you freeze!! Snorkling has made me miss diving a lot so I can't wait to go on a dive! Dan the german has his PADI as well so we are going to have a look into it once we reach Exmouth as we have a day
we can go off if we like and do our own thing!
the other guys did quad biking, some did mantaray tour and some stayed on the beach so you could do as you pleased. The turtle tour was great, we headed out for the turlte sanctuary which is in part of the reef, It's not enclosed or anything it's just looked after as it has the type of food that the turtles feed off. We kept seeing turtles popping their heads up for a breath and going down again! Cheeky little monkey's and they were very fast!! I kept missing them as my camera was too slow! We had a glass bottom boat which you could see them if they were under the water which was cool too. We weren't allowed to swim in the turlte area as its a sancutry and protected. My pics arent great of them but Suzi's going to send us hers as shes got a great camera!
We went snorkling at 2 different reef sites which was brilliant! the viz was really clear, all the fish hang around the back of the boat when you're getting in as they know there's food
on board! They are cheeky these marine life animals! So much for that 7 second memory that fish are supposed to have! Apparently it's been proved that that's not true now! the second snorkle site was amazing! it was rougher and quite a struggle to swim but well worth it! The waves kept coming over our snorkels! So much more, we saw clams, octopus, snappers, blow fish and water crabs. We could dive under and get a closer look! We're getting a CD between the 4 of us so we got some cool shots thanks to Craig - from newcastle under Lyme of all places getting some good uns! Kim suzi and Lou and me are in Sydney for new year do we are all going to meet up!
after we had dried off and had a cuppa (tastes v different to english tea but it was hot and we were cold!) and headed back.
We had a 3 hour trek to Exmouth in the afternoon butstopped off at a massive termite mound on the way - huugge! The Hostel Exmouth cape and blue reef backpackers was great, It had a separate building for the showers and toilets
so we really felt like we were camping! The rooms were 4 bed dorms that were like Port A cabins but very new. There was a really nice pool area as well and Emu's roaming round the site! Lovely Lovely!
We literally dumped our stuff and jumped back into the bus to go and see the Sunset (second time lucky) at exmouths most western point! it was up on the lighthouse, got some team shots but battery died on the old camera so Suzi's sending them! Good job she had a good camera! Was lovely sunset, the colours were stunning. I keep saying this but it is so beeaauutiful!!!!
we had a proper barbie for dinner with steaks, salads, burgers yummy yummy! I do like my BBQ's! Mateo the Italian guy plays the guitar as well so we had a rendition of Wonderwall and got told off by the camp warden for being too loud as quiet time is at 10! 10pm! how early! So we decided to find the beach, armed with our tour guide Steve and the 'Eski' aka cool box we eventually found the beach and plonked!
it was pretty dark on the beach and
you could see all the stars which looked fab! saw 4 shooting stars! weeeeeee! lovely evening! x
