We looked into diving as a few of us wanted to go but weren't allowed as we hadn't dived within a year. we tried another company but no luck getting through so will leave it for Cairns and the Great Barrier reef! Cheaper over that side anyway!
Turns out it was a good thing we didn't bother as Mateo was going diving anyway as it was cancelled due to the weather. Sarah and Paul went Deep Sea Fishing so we were expecting fresh fish for dinner! There's wasn't cancelled as they had some crazy Abo's taking them out!
So, those remaining went out with Steve to Yardie lake Creek, this was another gorge - bit more water in than the other one, got covered in flies again! That fly net was a great investment! Very pretty views again. We then headed to turquoise Bay for a few hours snorkling and beaching! Now I know I keep saying this about everything but this was amazingly stunning, best beach I have ever seen and don't forget i have worked cuba too! i am sure the pics probably don't so it justice! we picked up some snorkle gear and hit the seas. See what I mean!! bay is famous for its reef being so close to the shore, it starts about 10m out. there's a rip tide though which runs along the far side of the reef so we had to be careful to steer clear of that one else we would have got swept out to see! Don't panic - I'm still here! wwooooo!
Anyway the viz wasn't so great but I think thats because it's so close to the shore (ooooh just had mental block on how to spell shore! random! send me back to school - nooooo! Anyway, I digress......back to the little fishies!) Saw a pink Codfish which was pink and reddy, I think I saw a stone fish, I swum down to have a closer look but they camouflage well so I wasn't 100% sure but it did look like one!! lots of multi coloured fish that looked pretty but would probably take hours for me to remember their names! Lou thought she saw a little shark as well but by the time she swum over to get me and back again we couldn't find it! darn it! could have been close encounter! woooo! The deadly stonefish lie in the
sands and if you trod on one then it has these spines running down it's back which shoot venom into you. Apparently now if you get bit or injected with any venom then you're supposed to put hot hot water, as hot as you can stand it onto the area it bit you and around to break up the venom,...then obviously tootle yourself off to hospital!
We also saw a massive school of fish about 2m from the shore edge. Steven said it was really unusual to see that there, they kept swimming up and down the same little section! random but funny! We had a picnic at the beach then headed back to the hostel for the swimming pool! Was lovely area there, very chilled day!
Paul and Sarah came back from fishing and they did not dissappoint! they got lots of mackerel (think this is how you spell it!), special codfish and another one which I cant remember the name of! An Oz family helped us cook it all on the BBQ (in true Oz style - steve wanted to cooked spag bol on the BBQ the other day!) which was very nice of them and
it was delicious! fresh fish! I liked the mackerel a lot, bet you can't get it that good in trusty Sainsburys eh!
we did a collection for Steve as he has been fab guide and he had a few tears! We're his best group apparently - we're only his third though - hes new! ha ha! we will take the flattery and run! The atmosphere of the group is really good, I keep saying it but we all get on really well, the older ones, especially the Swedes are off their rockers! try anything! we had a real camp atmosphere the whole way, a fab start to our travels I think and no regrets doing a tour rather than struggling on ourselves! it's a long way! i think we have definitely seen a lot more this way as well, there's things I did not even know about!but it's not over yet.... we have the drive home - aaarrrhhhh!
we had a sing a long to the trusty guitar, I think ill be an excellent singer by the time I return! aarrr in the guides again! ha ha! x
PS - Been 40 degrees in the shade today - escorchio!!!
