Last Sunset
Last Sunset in SA on this Trip After nearly 2 months in South Australia, the heat wave saw us packing very quickly. We could not face the prospect of another week of 43 to 45 degrees as forecasted.
We decided to aim for Ceduna on the way back to the west, the object was to stay there one night and cool off a little, however, by the time we got to Ceduna from Port Kenny, at about 11 AM, it was already 46 degrees.
I decided that I would move on to Fowlers Bay a little village by the sea; this would be better for all of us. It was a wise move; because when we got there it was only 35 and cooling as the sea breeze was coming in. Just as well; we could not use the air conditioning at the caravan park, they run on a generator, so, most electrical appliance are off bound, but we could use a fan, and it did the job very well.
See the photo of our dog, sitting on the shoe cabinet, facing the fan and cooling as well., it was rather amusing, as when I tried to get him down, he was back there straight away,
and I lost the battle!!!! You cant win them all……
To get there, we asked TomTom to guide us, and it took us by the shortest road, very interesting, many times I thought that I would not make it, as a caravan and a sedan driving in sand is a very bad combination, the problem was that I could not turn back, as the sand on each side of the road prevented me from doing just that; it was a gazetted road, but there should have been a sign warning of the conditions. The distance was 37 Km. Eventually we did get there, it took us two and a half hours, but everything was ship shape in the van, except for dust and more dust when we arrived
I had wondered why the road was not signed posted, now I know, so beware of TOM TOM, it can be amusing and worrying at the same time
Port Kenny
When we left Cummins, we wanted to stay in Venus Bay, but we could not get in, and it was terribly hot, (as mentioned before) so we moved on to Port Kenny, as we wanted to see Talia Cave nearby,
Border
WA Border but frankly I could not advise anybody to stay in that park, probably the worst park within the duration of this trip, and it is the worst $19.00 ever spent, I suppose that in their defense, I must say that they do not have a lot of water to waste, but this does not justify the untidiness and mess, as well as ants and all other creepy crawlers that you would wish for.- enough said-
Talia Cave
Rather nice and worth the visit. I was very happy to see very good stairs to get down, and it was relatively easy, even for John who now has difficulty walking..
Eucla
Yesterday the 30th January we made it to Eucla, and we will be going in the morning very early again I took some photos of the Border Village and of the old Telegraph Station, the sand dunes are reclaiming it, but you can still see the shape of the building. a photo of the Eucla pass is included.
Our next stop will be bush camping tomorrow night if it is not too hot, hoping to get to Norseman by Monday afternoon; we still have 706 km before we
get there.
