20-2-10 Saturday , We left Busselton at about 9.30am & said goodbye to a few neighbours, it’s so nice to meet so many people of different backgrounds, jobs, all enjoying travelling. We have made so many great friend along the way, I think our address & email book is bursting at the seems. We wanted to stay somewhere at Margaret River, so we ended up at Big Valley Camp Ground 10 km out of M/River . It is a working Sheep Farm & at the moment it is very dry, the owners have set it up for a Caravan Park & are very nice people. It’s pretty rustic , but has a rural charm ($20 a night) & allows dogs. We set up & had lunch & were pleased with the van how it travelled over 5 km’s dirt road. We decided to go & explore a few different places as we had seen a lot of wineries in the Swan Valley. We started off at the Margaret River Chocolate factory, which we had been to in the Swan Valley , but worth another look. Then ended up at Bootleg Brewery, not expecting much & had a great few hours, sitting
outside, having a beer & wine, listening to a 3 piece girl band. The place was packed, I am sure the wineries were not that busy. We then went back to the cheese factory & bought some nice Camembert Cheese, stopped at the Candy Cow, did not buy a thing, which was good as it was like a bull in a candy shop. We then headed for the van & took the girls out for a walk & decided where to go tomorrow. We will head down to Cape Leeuwin & Augusta tomorrow. The weather today has been cool & overcast with a few misty showers, Den has actually had a jumper on. First time in months. It was about 20 deg today. Sunday 21-2-10 Well what a day, we started out headed down through Witchcliffe, Karridale then across to Hamelin Bay, just beautiful, well worth the detour. Then down to Augusta & down to the Lighthouse at Cape Leeuwin & where the Southern Ocean & the Indian Ocean meet. We went over the barrier & walked out to the extreme south west point of Australia. It felt good !!!! We explored the lighthouse sight, it was $5 each to
go in & if you did a tour it was $15 , we had toured the Cape Naturaliste Lighthouse so we did not do the tour. We then had lunch in a park opposite June’s Beach in Augusta. We pushed on to Pemberton, Northcliffe & stayed at a free park at Mt Burnside (113 in camp book) 56km north west of Walpole. There was no facilities & plenty of March Fly’s (they sting) but we shut ourselves in the van & had tea & slept quiet well. Earlier we went to Brockman Sawpit which was nice but as soon as we got out of the car we attacked by March Fly’s . I have never seen so many, there was hundreds of them. So we moved on to the free spot 213. 22-2-20-10 Monday We headed off about 8.30 & headed for Parry’s Beach which we had heard about, we stopped at Walpole at the info centre & gas & got some info on attractions around the area. We headed for Parry’s Beach Camping Area. What a great spot $7 a night , no power or water but hot solar showers & loo’s , a great spot if your generator
works. Ours packed it in, (Den not happy) We did hand washing & had a baked dinner in the cob so we went to bed not knowing what was wrong with the GENNY. But our 3 batteries under the bed were working well. It was 28 deg today. 23-2-10 Tuesday. We decided to go to Denmark to see what was wrong with the generator & to get water , petrol & a few groceries. We dropped off the generator hoping it would be fixed after lunch, we went to the Info Centre & we went & did our small grocery needs & then went on the tourist drive. We drove down beside the Denmark River around the Wilson Inlet & Ocean Beach & Sinker Bay what a great place. Then we went to Light Beach, a gem of a place, The beaches are just stunning,. From there we went on the scenic Scotsdale Road through the forest & winery road. From there we went back to Denmark & got Pies & Sausage rolls for lunch from the award winning bakery , we had them in the park. We then filled our water containers, got fuel for the Genny & picked
up the generator. The Smart throttle was stuck on & the carby needed cleaning, $60 later Den was happy. WE got back to the van & went for a big walk with the girls & had a shower ( have to have one early as it is solar & if you get there too late you have a cold shower) We had ea & the Genny is working well as well as the 12 volt TV , we are really happy with our new van , it is really good off road. Had a great BBQ tea & we watched TV for a while & went to bed. It was 26 deg today, very nice, but it is supposed to be very hot in the next few days.
