16-10-09 After breakfast we booked into the Park for another day as we wanted to clean the van , wash & get some food in the fridge. The car is filthy , but we cant wash it as there are water restrictions. Well we looked at the snorkel gear & said, what the heck, we can clean later, we quickly packed up & headed for Turquoise Bay in the National Park. We got there & settled on the beach & put our snorkel gear on & wow, all those fish under the water, the coral & the reef, just magnificent. It took me a while to get the hang of snorkelling as I was a bit nervous as there is a very strong current taking us down the beach, but after a few instructions from Den I was a bit better. The flippers hurt my left foot, the one I had reconstructed, so I ended up swimming with one flipper & that was better. Also a very kind lady on the beach lent me her “noodle” & I was much more confident then as I could float & I did not feel like I was as nervous, so that fixed
we were set. Dennis took to it like a duck to water & I just looked like Daffy Duck so a good pair. Den had the best time & before we knew it we had been there 2 hours. I had been happily taking pics & because of the brightness & reflection on the screen sometimes you cant see what you are taking, anyway I discovered I had left the memory card in the computer, so sorry “no pics today” (I am blonde you know) . After reluctantly dragging ourselves away from the beach we headed for home. We had lunch & did the washing, I stayed home & cleaned the van while Den went & did the shopping. I then packed it away & defrosted the freezer, while Den packed up outside. The phone rang & you could have knocked me over with a feather, it was Heather & Brian Hayes our old next door neighbours & they were holidaying too & were in Geraldton. It’s a pity I don’t think we will catch them, but it was great to hear from them. We said goodbye to our neighbours over the back, John & Sue & hopefully we will
catch up with them down the road somewhere. We got ready & went up to the “Thirsty Camel Pub” for tea & had a great meal of fish & salad & a few drinks of course. We walked home & we went to bed early as we were both bushed. Heading to Coral Bay tomorrow.
17-10-09 We were packed up & on the road by 8am & arrived at Coral Bay, booked into Bayview Coral Bay Caravan Park ($30 & $2 per dog each night) & we were all set up by 11.45 am. We decided to take the girls for a swim before lunch, tire them out & they would crash all avo, in the air con I might add (what a life). We walked down to the beach, not too far & were struck by the colour, beautiful blue-green water, white sand & the area just blew us away. We walked down to Paradise beach (the dog beach) & the girls swam then we headed back for the van .We had lunch & walked back to have a snorkel on the reef, the water was warm & the temperature was a balmy 32 deg. I went a
sat on the sand after a while & there was a wedding on the beach which was nice. We then strolled back & met a couple that we had been talking to on & off on the road, its amazing how you keep bumping into people. Coral Beach is a small self sufficient village that caters for everyone, there is a supermarket, bakery, pub, 2 van parks, backpackers accommodation & resort as well. Very well thought out, lots of beaches & tours, fishing & snorkelling. We had happy hour & then spoke to our neighbour over the back of us, we had an easy tea, & spoke to Merry on Skype which was good & then watched Hey Hey the return repeat performance. We then were in bed & sound asleep, all this sun & exercise.
18-10-09 This morning we decided to go for a drive to the boat ramp & harbour, again the beaches were just great, we could have gone 4 wheel driving but the sand was very soft & we would have had to let our tyres down & we could not be bothered. We went for a walk on the harbour wharf, & we could
see the fish swimming in the water, some really big ones. It said no fishing off the jetty, but you could fish off the rock wall. Jessie was going off at the sea gulls & they were very hot so decided to take them back to the van & get our rods & have a fish. Well luck of the Shaw’s we could see them all swimming around, but do you think they would jump on our line, not a chance, Den caught a small fish & that was all. Never mind we had a nice morning, freshened up our tans & the view was great & very peaceful too, I think we need Dad over here to give us some lessons. We headed back for the van & we were just in time for the Phillip Island Bike Races, so I had a rest after lunch & Den watched TV. We gave Dad & Ivy a ring, & they were pleased to hear from us & said they were missing us, we are too. We rang Brett & Kara & Ron & Lorraine, it was nice to catch up with them. We were going to go snorkelling but it
was very hot 35 deg & we had both had enough sun so we decided to have a shower & head for the pub. On our walk there we bumped into another young couple, Chris, Amanda & Oscar their dog, that were next to us in Broome that we kept seeing all the way down the coast . We got talking & said where we were going & they were going down to the Park restaurant for tea & said they might see us at the pub later, they both wanted a steak as they had been catching so much fish (Den & I nearly choked) so we got some pointers off them, they are in a Trope Van & tent so cant store much food & don’t eat out much. We set out & walked to the pub & we were having a drink when they turned up, so we order tea together, as the restaurant at the park did not have a nice steak & had a few drinks with them. We watched the sun go down & had a good night & we walked back to the van & I crashed early again. We are off tomorrow
to Point Quobba no 436 WA in the camps book.
