Blackwood River
View from the Augusta Hotel An eerie start today as smoke lined the air and the sun appeared red
through the haze due to a bushfire that had started near Manjimup as a
result of lightning strikes. Fortunately the blaze is nowhere near us and
fingers crossed it can be contained.
We rolled into Augusta late morning and checked into the Flinders Bay
Caravan Park; again these shire run parks really hit the mark. Nothing
much was doing so late afternoon Rachel suggested we cycle into town to see
the sights. The bike path was really good and it took us all the way along
the coast.
Augusta Hotel was the first port of call for a refreshing brew overlooking
the Blackwood River.....nice. After a little look around we cycled part
way back and stopped for fish and chips along the shoreline; neither of us
had the motivation to go home and cook so this was a superb alternative.
Augusta is a beautiful little spot and we had always intended on returning
after a day-trip while staying in nearby Margaret River last year. The

On the Blackwood River in Augusta is larger and more modern but for a relaxing time by the beach
Augusta wins the battle for a little getaway.
