Bunbury – Trish’s Birthday (week and a bit!)
12
th Jan 2012
This Blog is dedicated to four very special friends……
We left Alexandra Bridge campground after our overnight stay with Trish still questioning why we had left this beautiful spot. I repeated my story that ‘wherever we had been we had criss-crossed all over the countryside trying to see every corner of the region we were in at the time and Sues’ Road which splits the SW corner from the bottom right up towards Capel on the Coast road we had not been on and we needed to do ‘this bit’ I said. I also backed it up by saying ‘I wanted to be somewhere where we could go to a decent restaurant for her birthday’, (I think that sealed it), but I had to keep packing up that morning and get going as she was on the hunt to stay there.
Driving out of the campground I made a mental note to myself..we will come back here for an extended stay, as Trish from the passenger seat was lamenting our departure and accusing me of being ‘out of my mind and bloody stupid’.
The trip
shock....
...as reality sets in up to Bunbury was uneventful and as we pulled in to Australind Tourist Park, I thought to myself why the heck did we leave that river! …but I had a motive!
We set up and immediately realised we were in a very hot location with no protection from the sun so when Trish said the following morning (13
th) that some people were leaving from a particularly nice shady site I quickly made sure we could move with the Park office…’no problem’., I was told. Good I thought, as I needed to waist the morning and ensure Trish did not leave the C/Park. I did not need her to say ‘ let’s go for coffee’, or, ‘lets go to the beach’ (it was hot) and this idea had already been suggested earlier…’later’, I said, ‘when it cools down a bit’ (stalling for time). I remember saying to Trish ‘go and do the washing’ (I was looking to keep her busy), looking back that was the most stupid thing to say but it never got questioned! And she did!
The clock dragged on, 11.30, 12.00 and then she fell asleep in the chair in the shade with her
back to the gates and motel complex associated with the Park…fantastic ! 12.30 came and went and then her phone rang, waking and starting her…It was Judy saying she wanted to have a coffee with her for her birthday……and then Judy Law walked into our campsite with Denise (another friend)….both had flown in from Melbourne for her birthday as a surprise
Hell (in the nicest sense) broke loose, there was crying, hugging, etc and this did not stop for an hour whilst I cracked the first of many Champagne bottles for the week. What an afternoon we had and then it was evening and still we kept going until all collapsed.
The following day, Trish was up and at it and wanting to do this and that with our dear friends, but Judy and I had other ideas. We ensured a leisurely breakfast was had before we hopped in the car for a brief familiarisation tour of Bunbury. Stopping at a beach, (stupid me) Trish leaps out and off she goes with Denise in hot pursuit. Jude and I following behind saying ‘we need to keep moving and get her back in the car’.’.leave it to me’ Jude
OMG
..is this really happening !! says. Somehow we are back in the car but constantly glancing at my watch tells me we need to move, and with that Denise says..”I need to go to the toilet, can you take me home” “no problem’ says I as we pass another public loo thinking that any minute Trish will say ‘there is one, pull over then we can stay in town for lunch’ That would have been hard to get out of!
Back at the Park, I drive straight past the motel style units where Judy and Denise are staying with Trish saying ‘stop and let her out’. I had spied someone on the veranda so I couldn’t , ‘Denise can walk back’ I say.
Trish sat down, so we all did, then she was up and off to the toilet as well…’swap seats Judy, we need her back to the motel units again’, Jude does. At this point there is action ..but Trish is not here so I rush out and yell ‘go back, she is not here’! I forget Trisha’s phone and just as we settle down again in ‘rearranged’ seating…a male voice yells out ‘Answer your bloody phone woman’ . This was
When are you going back?
are you really here to stay for a week !! followed by more crying, hugging, laughter, and drinking.
Dear friends, Neil and Faye Gronow had arrived, flying in from Melbourne also for the big occasion. We had a huge party that night and amidst all the crying, drinking and laughter the atmosphere was electric. The rest of our time together was a week of celebration for Trish and a birthday to remember. She did not suspect a thing and now she understood why we had to leave and go to Bunbury… a magnificent week shared with great friends.
Because this week was for Trish it is now an appropriate time for her to say something in reply….
Well, to say I was surprised was a HUGE understatement!! I really had NO idea that these truly special friends would fly to the other side of Australia for my birthday, but I was very glad that they did! We had the most amazing week together & although the time went quickly, it seemed like they had been there for much longer. It was so fantastic to be able to share some of our travels with them, to enjoy Bunbury together & to take them to Busselton, a
After a bottle of Champagne..
...you need some lunch. (in the girls room) favourite place for Mike & I, it meant such a lot. My initial reluctance about this big zero birthday, certainly turned to Gold for me, we had the best of time! So special friends, THANK YOU all once again for making me feel very special & loved – the smiles will last a long time.
