Edit Blog Post
Hi all.
Well once again its been a while since we posted a blog, but its because we've been unbelievably busy, and have also been unable to get use the internet in the small towns we've been in.
Well as most of you probably know, we've bought a campervan, and what a van it is. We spent a good few days hunting for a van in sydney, and we struggled to find what we were looking for. There were a lot of overpriced vans, or a lot that were on their last legs and felt like the engine would blow at any second. But we waited patiently and eventually got a van in amazing condition, for a great price. As you can see from the photos, the van is has a hob, oven (yes a real gas oven), a fridge, a sink with running water, and a huge double bed. It also came with 2 sola showers, so that we can have a shower if we don't stay on a campsite, a picnic table and chairs, and a body board, and snorkles and fins. AMAZING.
We collected the van on thursday evening, and spent friday cleaning it out
(although it was very clean, and the french couple we bought it off were very nice, and looked clean themselves, ha ha). We then went to Kates mum and dads for a lovely mexican meal, and spent the evening drinking and chatting with her family, who were all very lovely. We planned to hit the road on sat, but it took so long to get the van finally ready, ie getting our clothes together, food shopping etc, that we decided to stay sat night too, and head off sunday, plus we were invited to a leaving party for one of D&K's mates, so it was a good excuse to stay the extra night. Sat night was good fun. We went to a few pubs/clubs down on Coogee beach, with a huge group of friends. It was good fun, everyone here is so friendly, and we ended up pretty drunk. Sundays hangover was cured with a KFC and off we went.
We decided to head south from sydney and slowly make our way to Melbourne, via the coastal highway. Our first night was spent in a campsite in a nationpark. It was right in the middle of the bush, on
the edge of the coast, and was unbelievably beautiful. We walked to the beach, and on the way came across so many variety's off wild parrots. They were all so colourful, and bright. We then drove to another beach within the national park to go surfing. On our way to the beach soph suddenly said "oh my god". I though there was a huge snake in the path or something, only to look up and see 2 kangaroos right infront of us. One was only small, the other pretty big. Their feet are so huge, and they stared right at us. We were a little scared as they were so close, but they slowly bounced off into the bush. WOW, it was so exciting. We saw kangaroo's on the first day of our trip, we're well lucky. Following that i went for a surf, and soph chilled on the beach, as the sun started to set.
We then spent the next 2 days travelling the coast, until we reached melbourne today. We haven't explored the city yet, we will do all of that tomo etc. We stopped off along the way to brake the drive and have lunch etc.
There isn't a great deal to see on the way down, but there was some lovely beaches and quaint little towns. We slept in some campsites but one night we stayed in a rest area. There are lots of sleeping and rest areas on the roads, as the distances are so huge that you need to stop. They provide toilets and showres for free etc, but our stop didn't have a shower, so we used the sola showers. They are great fun. You just fill the bag, leave it in the sun, hang it from the tree and shower. Awesome. Sophy went full on naked when she had hers, but there was no one else around, ha. Showering naked in the wilderness, it doesn't get much better hey, ha ha. She didn't have to worry about any animals coming up to her, they were all scared away, ha.
As we said before, Oz has been amazing so far, and we are both relising in the experience. We'll keep you posted, love us. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
