If you picture Melbourne at the top of a horseshoe shape (inverted U), St Kilda is at the 1 o'clock position. The Mornington Peninsula curves around from 2 o'clock to 5 o'clock, ending at Port Sea. On Nov 16th, we drove along the sea from St Kilda to Port Sea--about a 2-hour drive each way. Stopped at Brighton Beach to see and photograph the famous Beach boxes. These are small sheds that are on Council land. Residents can buy them to store their beach gear--no electicity or water, no sleeping there allowed. Cost can be as high as $25,000 AUS. You may have seen them on postcards--each shed painted in bright colours.

On Nov 17, we took a tram from St Kilda to downtown Melbourne and boarded a ferry for Williamstown which is an old town located at the other end of the "horseshoe" at 7 o'clock position. After a one hour putter across Port Phillip Bay, we spent the afternoon in this charming town with old and interesting shops and restaurants. We ate fish and chips wrapped in newspaper (unprinted). The battered fish was hake and flake (shark).
