Hi Everyone!
It's been a few days since I've written, so let me try to catch up on everything.
Sunday in Sydney was great, another huge action packed day. We took the train into the city, which was really nice. Sydney's public transportation was super clean and cool and comfortable, definitely impressive. We took the train right to Circular Quay, which is a really impressive view straight off, of the Sydney Harbour Bridge and the Opera House. We were starving, so we went to this really cool night-club that Stephen loves for lunch, called the Argyle. It was very cool, all comfy bed-y banquets, and we had some good lunch, my caesar salad was delish.
After that we did the whole walk around Circular Quay, and to the Opera House. It was INSANELY hot out, the heat wasn't so bad as much as the humidity, which Stevo said was rare, it's normally a more dry heat there. We had some ice cream and continued on our way, and walked all around the Opera House. I definitely want to either see an opera or a play there whilst I'm here in Aus, it truly is as beautiful as
I thought it would be, I'd love to get inside!
After that we walked to another shopping district, and went to the Queen Victoria Building, which is a really beautiful old building which is now a shopping centre, and we also went to David Jones. David Jones is one of their major department stores here, and I got a pair of shoes (it's not shopping if you need them, right?!) cause I needed another pair of comfy walking shoes. We walked around some more, then walked down to Darling Harbour, where we went to the Sydney Aquarium and the Sydney Wildlife Centre. Both were really cool, saw sharks and seals and jewfish (yes jewfish), and koala's and wombats and everything-I really need to upload my pictures. That's definitely on the to-do list for today!
That night we went to the King's Cross neighbourhood, where we went to a very cool club/restaurant thing called Hugo's Bar Pizza, where they had delicious delicious gourmet pizza's. We parked that night at a parking garage where the Sydney Backpacker's Car Market is... A lot of people here will buy a car for a couple grand, use it, and then try their best
Sydney Opera House
my camera died that day so I didn't take too many pictures... to sell it again. All over the walls and columns people had written things in permanent marker, detailing how much they had bought their car for, how many km's, where they had sold it, etc. It was very cool... If I weren't so terrified of driving on the left side it'd be something I would be considering! That night we said goodbye to Stephen, as he had to get back to work the next morning. On Monday we took it easy, chilling and repacking in the morning, and then flying to Melbourne that afternoon!
We flew into Avalon airport, which I had no clue when I booked was out like 45 mins from the city, but luckily my clique-ers love me enough to come get me. There was a dramatic run and hug across the parking lot, and we immediately were back to our old ways, laughing and giggling and all that. We said goodbye to Scott and Fiona, who Mike is staying with here, and drove back into the city. It was SO good to be together with Sari and Zoe and Emily again, we really miss Ashley, luckily she'll be here soon!! That night we just ordered
Argyle
where we ate lunch pizza, and caught up. Here in Melbourne, I am staying with my friend Zoe and her sister Penny. They have a great apartment, really spacious, and have generously let me enjoy use of their comfy futon.
Melbourne, or what I've seen of it so far, is awesome. Zoe and Penny live in a neighbourhood called South Yarra, which is a perfect location- cafe's lining all the streets, and right nearby her is a street called Chapel St. which has everything from some fancier Australian designers to their most common brands... Still resisting the shopping, although I'm REALLLLY tempted by all the rediculous fluro everyone seems to be into here. Yup, fluro. Fluroscent clothing is all the rage, and as much as I want to hate it, I do love me the bright.
Zoe and I walked to Chapel St. yesterday, came back to their apartment, chilled for a while, then went on another walk, this time to the botanical gardens, where we walked to a beautiful war memorial with views of the city. I really like it here in Melbourne, the gardens were really beautiful!
After that we came back here, cooked some dinner, went to the
no shit
crocs don't fuck around. grocery store (bought my raisin bran, which is called Sultana Bran here!) and some fruit, snacks, and Tim Tams, which I must admit are dangerously yummy.
Today Zoe is doing some work for her mother in the lab (her mom's a researcher at Monash Uni) so I'm just chilling for now, going to probably have a wander in to the city or through her neighbourhood some more. Tonight Sari is taking me to the Melbourne night market, which should be very cool!
Well, having an awesome time here! Love the emails!
xx
