Robinvale Windmill
Apparently the Largest in the Southern Hemisphere Hi travel followers.
Another week has passed and we have moved yet again to Rochester, Victoria (north of Bendigo), but not before spending a week chilling out at Echuca/Moama. What a lovely place it was on the Murray River bordering Victoria and NSW and watching the many Paddle Steamers travelling up and down the river.
You may also be surprised “as were we” that we have officially been retired and on our “Australian Adventure” for our first “YEAR” OR 12 months OR 365 Days, depending on how you look at it. We had to ask ourselves where the time went, until we looked back at where we have been, stayed and the things we have seen. Not a boring day amongst them.
For those who may be contemplating a similar trip, I thought I would take this opportunity to provide a few facts.
In the past 12 months we have:-
Travelled 37,896kms.Stayed at least one night at 122 van parks, free camps OR friends & families places.Used
Murray Cod at Swan Hill
Now that is one big fish 6,365 litres of fuel (shock / horror but expected)“Walked” approx. 3,500kms. This includes our daily exercise walks.Taken 3,747 photo’sMet untold friends and fellow travellers during many “happy Hours” that we intend to stay in touch with and catch up with again on our continued travels.
You may also be interested to know, our total annual expenses were just over $62,000 including non-travel related expenses like rates, water & insurance for our units in Toowoomba, plus rego, insurance, services and maintenance etc. for the Van and Landcruiser. NOTE: - While being frugal and watching what we spent, we also made sure we did and participated in everything we wanted including many tours and side trips to see and experience as much of the areas we visited as possible.
With all this in mind, we do not intend to rest on our laurels or curtail our travels as we have roughly planned out the next 18 months or so to include following
the sun (during winter) up the East Coast of Australia towards Townsville, Cairns and Port Douglas etc. and then possibly across to Normanton and Karumba before heading back down through the west of Queensland and NSW and then possibly towards the Grampians in Victoria for next summer 2015/16.
We hope you have enjoyed our travel blogs to date and we hope to catch up with as many of you as possible in our travels.
