Edit Blog Post
Well i am sitting here by myself for the second afternoon in a row, and decided it was about time to add something to this. Steve worked yesterday (sunday) and is at work atm (its 3:20pm), but i there was a chance everyone would be flying out tuesday morning, so i took monday nite off as well. as it turned out they flew out sunday morning, and although i let mel (deli manager) know that i could work today, she obviously didnt need me, so i am sitting here waiting to start work tomorrow long winded...slightly cabin fever...its cold outside, and cant decide whether it wants to rain or shine, so its doing a little bit of both, which means i cant really get outside atm. although i walked with steve wen he started work, and then jogged from there the long way back to the apartment, so i have dun about half an hour of exercise today. spent the rest of the day going between reading (the horse whisperer, and i still love it, read it in yr 10 once), and the computer. and still got about 5 hours to kill before steve comes home... hehe okay, im blabbering on
now.
had an awesum week with christine ralph and bradley, quickly (ish) summary now:
Day One 20/4/2008
woke up early to pick them up, except they missed the plane, so we went back at 2pm and collected them, steve in tears wen he saw him, was very excited. had a quick drive through glenelg, and then crashed at the apartment for a bit, relaxing and catching up. went down to fizz (Steves restaurant) for a quick bit to eat and drink, and ended up leaving after dark (steve and i still arent used to daylight savings being back to normal, its dark by 6 and just wierd). we walked through glenelg, and ended up getting takeaway pizza for dinner and going back to the apartment for drinks (apparently my new fav drink is called a wine spritzer: white with lemonade). we had a very early nite.
Day Two 21/4/2008
took bradley to a place called the beachhouse, basically a cross between timezone and a theme park, but all inside, which he had a great time at. after a late lunch, steve had to work that nite, and we four caught the tram into adelaide. wandered
around there for a couple of hours, but werent really fussed, so after having a few beers at coopers alehouse, we caught the tram home (and it was freezing by this stage, we didnt have jackets cos it was quite warm wen we left that day). met steve at the oyster bar (down the marina from his restaurant) for some oysters, before picking up takeaway noodles from another restaurant nearby, and going home for a late dinner.
Day Three 22/4/2008
Left around lunchtime for the barossa valley, arriving at the first winery just before 2. Made our way down the road between lyndoch (where we stayed while grapepicking) and tanunda, stopping at kellermeister, jacobs creek and grant burge. had a late lunch at jacobs creek, and we all agreed that it was absolutly fantastic. i had kangaroo, and steve had venison! christine and ralph couldnt believe how upmarket it all was, in the middle of a valley. stayed that nite at tanunda caravan park, christine ralph and bradley in the van (and they easily fit, except bradley kept moving around) and steve and i in a tent. we were absolutly freezing, and no one really got much sleep
that nite...we had a bbq dinner, and drank some of the wines that were bought that day
Day Four 23/4/2008
Began another day at the wineries, with a list of ones we wanted to get to. Elderton, Wolf Blass, Seppeltsfield (where i tried my first sherry that wasnt in a christmas cake, and where they specialise in ports, which i have grown to absolutly love!), two hands, maggie beers (and apparently she is famous, and we spoke to her briefly...although christine was a lot more excited about it then most of us). had a brief lunch there, picnic basket kind of style. then to penfolds (where i slowed down my drinking...i mean, wine tasting), and lastly vinecrest, which we made it to just in time before it shut at 5. steve and i decided to surprise them on the way home, and drove up to the place we're we camped that first nite we were by ourselves with rach and colby and not paying...it was an awesum view, especially cos the sun was setting far away over the water, and a perfect way to wrap up the day. we then drove back through gawler, and stopped at a
pub for dinner, which was set up very similar to sizzler. we all ate way to much, and felt sick the entire drive back to adelaide (about an hour). steve drove the whole day by the way, and was very bored by the end of it, but liked that we were all having so much fun. christine and ralph cannot believe that theyve been to the barossa valley.
Day Five 24/4/2008
very relaxing day today, went to west beach in the afternoon, where we all ended up having a swim! steve never swims, so i joked with him that if he got in he had permission to throw me in fully clothed. now the water was like ice. but he got in to his chest, and came back and got me. he didnt throw me in, but i knew that i had to at least get in a bit now. so i tentively tiptoed in, thort pfft its freezing but u only live once, and then went back to shore and ran all the way in and dived in! it was freezing, but it was kewl, especially wen i then crawled onto steves shoulders and dunked him. ralph
also got in completely, but christine didnt, which apparently is a shock cos christine is always the first in, not ralph. we then went down to the stamford for a pre dinner drink, did some shopping, and went back to the apartment for a homecooked pasta, and nibblies before.
Day Six 25/4/2008
With no idea wat to do today, but knowing that we wanted to go somewhere, i suggested we drive to murray bridge (about 90mins away) and that way we could all say we've seen the murray. so we drove there, arriving around 130. there was the cutest like paddleboat on the river that had been turned into a shop, and it selled the cutest little things eva, and the oldest things and just plain junk but it was like we'd stepped back in time. it was awesum. we then got off that boat in time to jump on another paddleboat that was taking off down the river for an hour. bradley even got to be a junior captain for a bit and steer it! was kinda kewl. we left there around 5, making the long drive back to adelaide, and decided to walk down to the
pub on the corner for dinner, and then we could watch the footy. sucha good game, especially cos we were dressed in our freo stuff, and there were geelong supporters there too! and dinner was amazing. buffet again, and it was the best we've ever been too. every type of food and desert and everything. so we were very full after that too...and very depressed but hyped up about the game.
Day Seven 26/4/2008
Didnt really know what to do today, so went to marion (shopping centre) and wandered around there for a bit. then came home and relaxed, and left around 730 for dinner, cos ralph and christine wanted to take us out for their last nite. we went to the oyster bar where we ate far to many oysters for entree, and then to a restaurant called the buffullo, which is actually on a replica of the ship. its parked in the marina and everything, and looks cool inside. the food came out way to quickly, but it was a good nite where we all ate heaps and drank heaps. followed by a nite where we stayed up late (2am i think).
Day Eight 27/4/2008
we all joked about sleeping through our alarms, but none of us thought that we'd actually do it. i woke at 5:40 outa pure coincedence, and had to wake everyone else up cos we wanted to leave by 6am. left at 10 past, and got there just in time to check the luggage in...and then had to rush though anyway to board straight away. was sad saying goodbye, and waved at them until the plane has taken off into the grey stormy sky.
Overall was an awesum week. a holiday within a holiday.
