Habibi is the name of the sailboat that I am going to spend my next two days on! Yeah, rough, i know... The is beating down on us as we are meeting at the marina at 1:30 pm to meet the other 24 passengers and the three men crew of the Habibi. Since the travel world around here is so small, i once again actually run into a couple from England, Luke and Leann, who also were on Kiwi , and so together we embark on our journey. Our fellow "sailors' are from England, Germany, Israel, France, Sweden, Switzerland and Canada. As always around these parts, quite a mix of old and young from all over the world.
Our skipper Greg is assisted my diving instructor, deckhand, chef, sailor, etc Shane ( jack of all traits) and Smiley, a traveller from Japan who also is a dive instructor and who sails with them, helps out, and keeps all of us very entertained with her huge smile, energy, and funny accent!
The Whitsundays is an island group of 74 islands, that are a National Park , and therefore are protected from development and tourists galore. If you want to get out to the islands, you have to have a boat, or fly to one of the very few resorts that have been permitted to be build on the islands. And so it is that we encounter a few sailboats, a few yachts, but pretty much have every beach, every cove, and every snorkling reef to ourselves!!! Yeah! .
Since this is a fully catered trip, Shane whips up a great BBQ our first night on the water, we enjoy the cold beverages we all brought on board, gaze at the most beautiful night sky i have ever seen! (the milky way looked so close that you wanted to touch it, the Southern Cross was right above us, Orion's belt was so visible that you could count it's surrounding stars... need i go on? ) You get the idea, right? Since it was quite hot below deck, and i had brought my sleeping bacg on board hoping for a warm, rainless night, i just plopped my head on my pillow, and slept on deck blanketed by the stars above!!! THE LIFE!!!
