After going to Fraser Island we had a dolphin kayaking but we only had one day left to stay and rainbow beach is a really really tiny place and we really didn't care for staying there anylonger than we had to! So instead of going kayaking they took us for a surf in the mad weather but it was wicked fun and we ended up landing a job for the surf shop/school for maybe a few weeks.
First week was quite boring since we're both city girls and I don't know I guess you just have to get into it. There is no stress, just chilling. We ended up spending our days like this: wake up with the sun and go for a really early surf since that's 9 out of 10 times the best time of the day for surfing. exhausted comming back to the house have a shower eat breki and rent out surf boards to backpackers the rest of the day. Imagine a better week of relaxing.
As the 2nd week went by we had got to know some locals and backpackers who worked in the hostels etc. And I can'r recomend any of them they're all good in different ways.
Dingo's is probably the most party hostel but
Fraser's on Rainbow has the best pool table and table tennis and it's a nice atmosphere,
Pippie's is the one that's more family like and you get good free breakfast in the morning and no bar so you can bring your own alcohol or just not drink at all if you feel like it.
In the beginning Rainbow Beach was a boring little pas-by-as-sson-as-we-can-town but it turned out to be alot more, I can't say I care for the lifestyle many people live but I can def understand why people wanna live in a small town now. I would consider it myself if there was more for kids to do. This is also what I've come to realize during the last 2 months. People drink alot, and not just backpackers, people who live here must consume more alcohol than the average european. I wonder why though... The only reason that I'm bringing it up is becayuse it's not what I expected, or it's nothing I've ever even thought of I guess.
Last week in rainbow was filled with emotions. We got a puppy a little mini-foxie cross dashound to take care of, we worked more than the last weeks, we went to double island point to surf and do some fishing. We went to Gympie to do some shopping and just hang out, get reception on our cell phones (for the first time in 3 weeks). Last saturday we went up to double island point again and met some fun people while watching the yearly memorial surf competition.
Rainbow was fun but in the end things didn't go as we planned and I don't know the answere to my own questions and I don't know what did go wrong but I feel so dissapointed in alot of people and it was a big relife to leave. It was time and we would have been stuck there for months if we wouldn't have left, or just gotten more dissapointed as the weeks would have gone by.
Rainbow Beach taught me alot of stuff and reminded me of so much that I haven't thought of in a long time. Even though it was tough we got through it together and we grew a little from it.
I wonder if all the pieces of the puzzle is ever gonna find their place.
Keep loving,
Fanny xx
