From the lookout
Hi everyone
We arrived at the Isa after a good time up at Kuramba, and Gregory Downs. At Kuramba we stayed 3 nights, went out on a half day fishing charter in the gulf, and came home with 11 fish, 3 different varieties. Chris caught more than me!! Must be loosing my touch!
We left there, and drove down to Burke and Wills roadhouse, then headed west to Gregory Downs, where we free parked beside a nice , swift flowing river for 3 nights. We left the van there, and drove in on a dusty rough road to Lawn Hill to the National Park. We used our tent for the first time, and camped a night at Adels Grove nearby. We hired a canoe and paddled up the river, past a waterfall, (we carried the canoe past it on a track), to as far as we could get up the pretty gorge. Our tent worked out fine - a spare bed for anyone wishing to join us! From there, we had another free park night on the way back down (with the same group of people we had met at Gregory Downs), campfire again and more stories. One man is as good as Rick with his stories!!
We came on down through Concurry, and on to Mt Isa. Yesterday we did a surface mine tour by minibus, saw the Black Star Open Cut Mine, and surface operations of the Xstrata Mt Isa Mines. They mine copper, zinc, lead and silver here. We saw girls driving the big trucks and heavy machinery - they like girls driving up here, and a huge roadtrain with 5 trailers which goes between the mines with ore. We didn't get out of the bus, but it was very interesting.
We head on up towards Darwin tomorrow, will probably take around 2 weeks to get there. Not much phone/net coverage in these parts, so may not update blog to we get there.
Cheers Lynne and Chris

Sounds like a full couple of days. Hope you enjoy Darwin when you finally get there. We had a lovely time there and enjoyed it immensely. One thing we did was go to was Arnham Land (not sure whether that is the way to spell it) it is a huge land area (around the size of Wales) which has been given over to the aboriginal people and we went for a 2 - 3 day tour camping over night and taken into Arnham Land which is only done by the Aboriginal tour company. Maybe you will have time for something like that. We found it very interesting and very well done. I am at Oak River Drive babysitting with Louise for this week, with a weekend break while she goes back and stays at the apartment in Herne Bay and then back up to Oak River on the Monday and finally goes back to Auckland on the Friday to take possession of their house - Hooorah !!!! As you can imagine the place is a tip and we also have Sonya, Nestor and Solomon coming for Saturday night. When it is all finally over I think I might leave the country again. Sydney is looking good. Andrew still hopeless and not working, on the dole moves from accommodation to accomodation. stealing, lying etc. We are just waiting for him to reach rock bottom whenever that will be and then hopefully he will agree to rehab - but its a long shot I don't hold out too much hope. Enjoy the Northern Territory. Are you continuing over to the West Coast - Broom, etc. Lots of love Pen and Stu
