Kumbia
Our Camping spot at Kumbia on our Friend Dougs Block We spent a lovely week at Cania Gorge where it was rather cool of a night time, reaching 3.8 degrees one night and not much more the rest of the time. They had a campfire going each night so we all got around that and had a few drinks and a couple of nights some of us placed dampers for everyone in it which was a great success. We also placed our potatoes and veggies in there a couple of nights, delicious.
After Cania Gorge we ventured to Rockhampton where we stayed for 3 nights, nothing much here as we just did some shopping and washing to break the trip. After leaving Rockhampton we drove to Mackay for the day to have a new bike bracket fitted to the 5th Wheeler as the old one almost came off on the terrible bumpy roads we have here in Queensland. We then drove to a little village called Conway Beach which is 28km east of Proserpine and 38km south of Airlie Beach. There are about 50 houses, the caravan park which is also the local shop and of course the beach which was battered a little by Cyclone Yasi. The weather was
Cania Campfire
Campfire at Cania Gorge where we had a couple of drinks and spun a few tales not the best for the first few days, but once it fined up we were out fishing and we caught 3 nice size whiting from the beach so we were pleased to at last start catching some fish. If you have a boat there are mud crabs to be caught as most of the people in the camp have one. We drove to Airlie Beach one day which is really starting to build up with units all along the hillside which is not the best of sights.
We then drove to Alva Beach, another small village 16kms east of Ayr which a couple we met at Rockhampton told us about as they go there every year for a couple of months. We were given the loan of a yabbie pump so we went out one afternoon through a small track at the back of the park and we had to walk through a few mud puddles and guess who fell over in the mud right on her backside. We both had a great laugh at it. We caught more whiting from the beach and I caught a flathead but unfortunately it was just undersize. We stayed there a week
Cania Dam
Cania Dam all full and green and are now at Lucinda, 27kms east of Ingham. We have a lovely spot at the park as we can see the water and the 5.6km bulk sugar loading jetting which is the longest in the southern hemisphere. Nothing much caught here as yet, but we have fantastic neighbours as they have a boat and we have been given a lovely mudcrab, heaps of prawns and a couple of fish so we are having them over for dinner tomorrow night for a Pork Roast. Nothing much Trevor said, he caught a 2 kg Sickle fish which is similar to a very large bream, anyhow there were 2 meals in the one fish so it was quite a catch and he was tickled pink. Unfortunately we forgot to take a photo of it. We will probably stay here 2 weeks as we can go fishing from the beach in a few places and also there is a jetty where we can go as well. The weather has been great, but there is a little rain expected towards the end of the week. This is supposed to be the dry season so it shows you how our weather patterns are changing.

Good to hear from you
Hi Trevor and Margaret Chris and I were just talking about you and wondering how you were getting on with the new rig. Your blog bought back memories as we visited all these places too. We still think Cania is one of the best places to stay. Good luck with the fishing. We're not enjoying WINTER in NZ, and keep being told it's very mild so far! Too wet and cold for us. Chris has almost finished doing up the house, we will probably put it on the market in the spring. Not sure where we will move to yet. Keep enjoying your travels, we love reliving it with you. Regards Lynne and Chris
