13th & 14th July - In Cairns

First day in Cairns we did the usual rest day thing and didn’t rest much.... shopping, washing, cooking, catching up on this blog..... The second day we drove into town, and had a walk along the Esplanade, a very pleasantly set out pathway and man-made lagoon, with lovely views of mountains coming straight down into the sea, and a very expensive-looking marina. A pity about the mudflats, an ever-present feature of Cairns. Is it always low tide here, or only whenever I visit? While walking along th marina, we spotted a yacht flying a French flag, and it being Bastille Day, Phil played the Marsellaise on his mobile phone, but no-one came out to join in the singing! Because we've had two days of not being on the road, I haven't taken many photos, but there will be loads more in the days to come.
