Day 10 Tuesday 12th July 2011 Charters Towers to Cairns

The minus of being back on the coast road – all the trucks and traffic generally. The plus – beautiful views of mountains meeting the sea, and warmer weather, even at night. In Cairns we’ve had quite a few join our group: Con and Mike, Rob Payne and Paul Playoust, Morrie’s travelling mate Ron, Murray’s partner Val, and Joan’s son Andrew. Nigel and I have 2 full rest days (3 nights) here, as we are now splitting into two groups so as not to overcrowd the road and the campsites with a whole lot of Peugeots. The first group heads north after 2 nights in Cairns, and we go after three nights.
