Last day East Coast Pass
Crocodiles & Bungy Jumps
The Woolshed at Night.
It was a full bus going from Mission Beach to Cairns and one REALLY long day because of one not too tactful and oh so drunk girl named Lisa. It was really disappointing since yesterday's small bus load was really nice with all of us getting along pretty nicely.
I don't really care to waste my time and energy writing about Lisa and how she made the day on the bus ride seem extra long. Plus it is much better to tell stories like this in person as opposed to writing about them. 😊
So the day started off with an early morning start as usual. There were five beds in our room but one of them was left unoccupied for the night! I won't divulge any names but said person that did not return to her bed last night arrived bright and early to our room just after I woke up! Apparently she spent some good times with our bus driver too...what a cliche...sleeping with the bus driver. I just hope that our driver is awake enough to drive us safely to Cairns tonight!
The weather was pretty wet and cloudy driving through the Atherton Tablelands area. In the morning we stopped off at a Crocodile farm for a bit. I wasn't all that keen on going in but I figured it was better than sitting around for two hours with obnoxious Lisa and gang that were not going in. We saw some huge crocs. One of the guides was really crazy and he even went into the pen and sat on top of the big sucker. Mind you it is probably because the big croc was so big it was not very mobile. We also saw some kangaroos, wallabies and a Cassowary up close. Now those babies are vicious and not to mention ugly. Sort of looks like an emu with a weird thing on its blue head.
We drove some more and had another break at a waterfall. There was a weird optical illusion. You look at the centre of the waterfall for about 10 seconds straight and then shift your eyes upwards. Hard to describe the effect on your eyes but it sure is freaky!
Lunch was so unmemorable that I can't even remember where it was we
stopped. Oh yes, McD's. Still haven't had myself a Big Mac. I did however try one of their sandwiches. The Tandoori Chicken is pretty good although a tad on the pricey side in my opinion.
We drove a couple more hours in the afternoon before stopping off at the A.J. Hackett bungy jump. Our driver was trying to convince all of us to do a bungy jump. I knew for sure I wouldn't be able to take that step. Plus, Lucy and Laura were telling us about the 216 metre (not feet!) bungy jump that they did in South Africa and this one was only 43metre...seemed so short. lol Anyhoo, a few people took the plunge and it was all very entertaining to watch. I just sat there trying to imagine a platform that was five times higher than the one I was looking at....I still can't imagine. You probably wouldn't have been able to see it from the ground! Some people also went on the bungy swing thingy as well. It is amazing how much money people will spend on a few minutes of an adrenaline rush and on top of that pay another $25 for a video
The girls at the pub.
Bon, Lucy, Amy and Laura. copy of that experience. But if it floats their boat I shouldn't really say anything, right?
The bungy place was only about 10 minutes away from Cairns so that was nice...not having to wait on the bus for a long, long time. Our driver made plans for all of us to meet at the Woolshed for dinner and drinks. Lucky for me the Woolshed was located right across the street from the hostel I was staying at...no worries about getting home safely!
The Woolshed got pretty busy. Especially for a Tuesday night! But I guess since Cairns is such a tourist place and tourists are arriving everyday it seems that every night is like the weekend. Party! Party! Party! We all got there around 8PM and had some cheap bar food for dinner. Happy hour didn't start until 10PM but that was okay because we had two booths to sit and just chatted about nothing in particular. Then before we knew it the fun and games on the stage started. Once again I was surprised by what some people will do for a free drink. Shortly thereafter dancing started up. I wasn't really in the mood to dance but did dance a little bit before saying a few goodbyes and heading back to my hostel for the night. I wasn't planning on staying out that late but ended up getting home around 1:30 or thereabouts. Since I wasn't planning on staying out late I had all of my stuff laid out on my bed and had to try and get it off of my bed as quietly as possible and all the while in the dark and trying to find my toiletry bag as well! I somehow managed to not trip over anything or wake up my two dorm mates and was able to get to bed with minty fresh breath. lol I really do need to buy myself a flashlight (or torch like some like to say...)
