Surfers
Dracula show Well we finally made it to our last destination on our travels up the east coast and good aul Joey got us there safe & sound!!
When we left Surfers we headed up to Brisbane for a few days. Went to the Outback show with Bruce & Mavis, had lunch with Roddy MacDonald, went to the Irish Club with Keith & Sarah, and even took in a band practice with the Queensland Irish Association Pipe Band! Hadnt enough time to see everything in Brisbane so hope to get back there for a quick stop before we go to NZ.
After Brisbane we headed north to Caloundra, a lovely little seaside town, although with our schedule we only stayed one night there and moved on to Noosa. On our way to Noosa we called into the World Famous Austraila Zoo (Steve Irwins place). We had a ball here, really enjoyed it (See photo's). when we got to Noosa we stayed two nights which was great, we treated ourselves to an apartment which was an extra bonus! Noosa is really gorgeous, lovely beach, good shops ( not that we could afford it!) and nice weather. We met up with a guy

Dracula show - Al was in love with this girl!! that Alen knows from bands,Murray Blair and his girlfriend Tanya. Had a quiet few drinks with them one of the nights which was good crack!
Our next stop was Hervey Bay, this is where you can do the tours of the famous Fraser Island. We camped at a lovely tourist park where you could feed these massive water turtles, the facilities were lovely here and it was probably one of the nicest parks we stayed at. Fraser Island is the largest sand island in the world! You need a 4WD to do it so unfortuantly we couldn't take Joey and had to go on a tour bus! The tour bus was a 4WD which was pretty cool, we had seatbelts so we didnt get thrown around! Fraser Island is lovely as you will see from the photos, we went swimming in this freshwater lake, it was the clearest water we had ever seen. We also went rainforest walking, 4WD on the beach(where we saw a wild dingo!!!) and before we went home we went swimming in Eli Creek, which was freezing but very refreshing!
Next day the plan was to head for a place called 1770. When we

Dracula show finally got there we booked into this campsite that was suppossed to be fab but looked a bit rough! We decided to head to the beach anyway to check it out. We were the only ones around and nobody else was in swimming. We got a bit freaked and decided just to head out of there and continue on driving.. So we went on for about another hour and a half to a campsite just south of Gladstone. When we got talking to the girl inside she told us that the site we were boooked into in 1770 had just won the campsite of the year award for Queensland (They must have a a few contacts!!!)
We then headed up to Rockhampton where we stayed with Shells relations ( Derek, Gabriel and Stephen) for 2 days. They live in a small town about 50kms east of Rocky callled Emu Park.. This is a really nice little place with some beautiful beaches.. It was nice to spend a bit of time with them and Gabriels cooking was fab.
The day we left Rocky we headed off really early cos we had a good long drive ahead of us. We

Our lovely apartment were going for Mackay. It's such a long drive and the temperature was so high that we were have sing alongs for about 4 hours just to keep ourselves awake.. When we eventually arrived in Mackay and pulled into our campsite we had been travelling for over 6 and a half hours. We were sweaty and tired and all we wanted was to go for a swim. We were no sooner in the pool when everybody strated jumping out. We had no idea what was going on until we heard someone saying "Ewwww some kid just SHAT in the pool". You can probobly imagine what we wanted to do to that kid. So after our short swim and our showers we just ended up goingto the cinema instead. Needless to say it was the shittiest campsite we ever stayed in.
Next stop was beautiful Airlie Beach. We loved this place. So much so that we stayed here for 3 nights. Airlie Beach is the home of the Whitsunday Islands and supposidly the best Scuba diving in Australia. So we book a day trip with Fantasea, which included a day Snorkelling on the reef, our lunch and our dive. The

Our lovely apartment dive is definitely the most amazing and equally the most terrifying experience of our trip so far. The next day we met a Canadian couple (Shari & Kael) in the pool in our complex testing out their new under water camera, obviously they used me and Shell as their underwater models.. We went out on the beer with them that night for Shari's birthday. Sore heads were had the next day. Townsville was the next port of call.
This place is like a few towns on the east coast, looks identical to them all, pretty boring and nothing to do for tourists, so we checked into our campsite, had a good long swim (in an unshitty pool!!), cooked dinner, read our books and watched SVU. It's also the place where we found out about the impending catagory 3 Cyclone travelling down from the north.
So the next day we set off early hoping to get to Mission Beach. Along the way we stopped off in the visitor centre in Ingham, (this is the town that was under water for 13 days in the floods 2 weeks previous, so as you can imagine it was still pretty wet!!!). When

Our lovely apartment we told the woman where we were headed she basically told us not to bother going, that the Cyclone was building up speed and was due to hit there any day.. So we got in our car and just headed straight for Cairns.. Along the way we stopped off for lunch in a beautiful little place called Tully (actually it was a bit of a red neck town but I'm biased!!). We could see the dark skies rapidly approaching so we eat quick and got on our way. The final hour and a half drive to Cairns was pretty scary, with gael force winds and torrential rain. Luckily that was only the tip of the Cyclone..
So to date we're still here in Cairns, So far we've gone Jet Skiing and we did a day tour of Cape Tribulation yeaterday which was really cool. It's been great catching up with my family (Brendan, Anne, Ian and Adam) but we have our flights booked to head back to Surfer for Monday. The best part about up here is that we sold joey the other day, very sad to see her go but glad to boost our bank balance!! Whitewater rafting
