Today’s task is to go shopping for things that I didn’t deem as important enough to bring. We had discussions at the meal last night that have highlighted some items that I will need! I have never work a hat, I need one! I brought a reusable coffee cup, not a reusable water bottle, I need one. I have been drinking Pocari Sweat, haven’t found it here, I need hydrolyte tablets. I should have brought an overnight bag for the island visits, I haven’t brought one. I thought a day bag was a handbag for the day, ie, my Dr Martin backpack… no… not the same thing! I need to address that too! It’s a good job that I’ve got a free day today!
So I just checked the time for the first time today… I have been meandering around the shops for 3 hours!!! The only thing I haven’t bought is a hat. I really can’t see myself self in a hat! So I’m going to utilise my hard scarves that use as bandanas. I can try to to a trendy turban… ha ha. I didn’t get a backpack either. I have a good one … at home! So
I bought a sort of shopping bag that is plenty big, and strong enough for the job! I am now drinking my water with a dose of hydralytes in it. All other items done!
I needed the loo, the nearest place is the casino, oooohhhh, I was tempted, but didn’t give in to temptation, and just used the loo!
As I was walking I came across The Aboriginal Arts Centre. It was interesting, and really nice to see all of the artworks. They are so different, yet recognisable as aboriginal. No photos were allowed, which was Shane, but understandable. The pieces were so expensive!!
I walked to the lagoon area, it’s so nice down there. I rested, paddled and cooled down in such a lovely environment. I stopped at the small cafe for many lunch. I just had a light sandwich today, with water. So I’m sticking to my eat 3 times day plan!
After lunch, I set off for a slow walk back to the hotel. I’m considering going to the Aquarium this afternoon, but I just want to sort my stuff out for the 2 night stay at Magnetic Island. We are leaving our
suitcases locked in a trailer on the mainland, so I just need to make sure that I have got everything covered!
The time back at the hotel ended up being longer than I had anticipated because…. I had a good snooze, on a shade bed around the pool after sorting bag. The beds are great. It’s a circular bed with a sort of pram hood for shade. They are so comfy. I’ve laid on it twice, and fell to sleep both times!!! The outcome of that being that missed the last entry for the aquarium!
We had a message through in our WhatsApp group to see who would like to meet up for dinner tonight. There was only Charles and I wanting to go, so we organised ourselves to go out. Charles is the other person that is from UK, but he’s been living in New York for quite a few years. He certainly doesn’t sound British anymore! I’m not sure how old he is, but definitely younger than Beth and Ella, I would guess!
I went for a walk down the esplanade to sit and have a nice cappuccino before dinner, then met with Charles later.
We opted for a Greek place to eat. We both went for the falafels with chips and salad. It made a nice change, but I couldn’t manage it all! Well, the change comment is not entirely true, most of the meals I have eaten have been a change from my norm!!
After dinner it was straight back to the hotel for an early night, as it’s an early start tomorrow as we make our first move in the tour. We are heading g for 2 nights in Magnetic Islands.
