Hey All,
I was so excited today as we were going to the Bundaberg Rum Distillery!!!
To me this was one of the main reasons to come to Bundaberg, as its rum is so famous (well in Auz it is!!), they actually only export 3% of this rum to NZ and only 1% of this rum out to the rest of the world.
Kieva drove us down to the distillery, it’s only a few km away, Kieva and Jeff gave us their membership cards to get cheaper entrance, this only worked if one of us paid and the other showed their card to get in for free. I paid and Vick pretended to be a 60-year-old lady, it worked like a charm lol. When filling in the paperwork she put her DOB as 1964 so I gave her a nudge and she changed it to a more sensible age!!
So the tour was really good, they explained how everything was made; showed us the machinery and the storage areas; then the good stuff begun… we saw the new special reserves, where they are now using old sherry, whisky and port barrels.
Then it was the tasting time!!! WOO HOO!!
I tried the special reserve rums, they were both amazing but the double barrel was the best by far, I drank it neat and Vick had coke in hers. Vick tried one of the specials and their best seller the Mutiny, this was spiced rum and was nice. We worked it so we both tried 4 different ones instead of two like everyone else!!
After the tour we walked up to the ginger beer factory, their ginger beer is also really famous (it’s amazing second best one I have ever tried). However we got lost and had to ring Jeff to come and pick us up!! L
Jeff took us back to his place before him and Kieva drove us into town so we could have a look around and grab some lunch while they went to meet Mary and Mike for lunch and a little lunchtime gambling.
We had a look around and found loads of great shop where Vick wanted to buy everything, however we can’t buy anything, as we would have to carry it with us for
the rest of our travels!! L We grabbed lunch in Coles, walked down to the river then gave Kieva a ring to head back.
Once back Vick and I got in the pool, it was so relaxing and Jeff being amazing kept bringing us beers in the pool!! (never been treated so well).
Jeff asked what we had not eaten for a while, we both agreed what we wanted, a roast dinner!! Jeff prepped everything and put it all on the timer as we were heading out for drinks at their local ATW sports club.
The club was really good, it was packed to start with and had a built in mini casino, so they had pokies (our fruit machines) and Keno and horse and dog racing. I was in heaven.
Kieva loves the Pokies so she headed to them while Jeff, Vick and I, got drinks. We played some Keno and horse racing, we didn’t do that well, after a lot more drinks and gambling I went to get Kieva to head home, I though I would have a go on a Poky and won $150 on
a $20 bet so paid for mine and Vicks night plus a bit more. I found Kieva and headed back, instead of leaving we had a few more drinks…we ended up leaving at 2130…opps!!!
Once back we found the dinner had survived and after Jeff sorted it we had a very late 2200 roast dinner. It was so good Roast Pork dinner!!! MMMMM
We were all shattered so we headed to bed and think I was asleep before my head hit the pillow!!
Love N&V X
