Sun 12th
Slept on and off for 2 hours because it was a cheap flight so the seats were so uncomfortable!
As promised Keith who had the van, picked us up at the airport. It was in such good condition so we bought it for $5,700 and not $6,000. He then dropped us to Chill backpackers where we booked 3 nights as the van was having a few things done to it.
Mon 13th
Straight to HSBC to get the money sorted for to give Keth on Wed when w epick the van up. Guess who phoned us to meet up with him, Germany (Lukas). This was so strange seeing him in Brisbane after saying goodbye to him in Fiji. Sonwe just hang out with him for a hew hours until he had to catch his flight to Christchurch. W ehope he was going to be ok as Christchurch had an earthquake.
The rest of that day I tried to upload pics onto the blog in the library which took forever and even when we tried to upload pics on the free 1 hour at our hostel, the comper crashed on me. So I gave up!
Tues 14th
We had to
sort our our OZ bank account so this was the first thing on our list of things to do that morning. We had to go baack later that day to collect our security pins etc. So what better time could be wasted than retail therapy. A pair of shoes and a new dress. Just what I have been needing as I have really missed dressing up when going out for the evening. I cannot dnace and dont feel right in flip flops.
The chashier that served us in HSBC told us all the great stops along the way the coast so we can surf them. We have decided to stay at Surfers Paradise to stop there and work to bump up our money. Also the surf is on our door step so what more could you ask for.
Wed 15th
The dream has finally started, although I had to take my lovely pair of shoes that I bought back because they were just little too small for me and for $180 they had to be right.
We then met Keith and Noline and went to register the van and put it in our name.
Off we went to Surfers but
we could not find our way out of Brisbane for love nor money so i stopped in a cafe and as soon as I walked in the guy that owned it asked me if I wanted a job. If I walk in every shop and get asked if I want a job I will be laughing.
At Brisbane Keith showed me the gears of the van as 3rd gear is a little hard to get in and he said he is going to cringe at how many times I will crunch the gears. Um hello, did I crunch the gears, of course not, hence why I was driving he he.
on way to Surfers
It took us an hour to get to Surfers and when we did we parked up and sorted our stuff our as it was a mess from where we just threw it in so we could get going.
As we didnt know the city and wanted to suss it out first before camping on the side of the road we booked ourselves into a campsite that night. For tea I cooked a satay chicken with rice and had a couple glasses of goon. $11 for 4
litres and infact this was the best goon I had tasted.
Thurs 16th
Job searching. We typed typed Nath's resume's and started to hand them out. We both walked into an office and straight away got offered a job to walk on the streets to do sales for electric. He was from Exeter. This was working from 10am until 7pm 6 days a week. No way were we doing that, that was more hours than what I do at home and we wanted to enjoy surfing and the weather so we decided it was a bad idea. We called it a night after walking all day and trying to find a job, to be honest we felt a little deflated.
As Nath had no job and wanted to try and save more money we slept of the side of the road.
Fri 17th
Feeling posotive today, the facet that we saved money by staying on the side of the road really helped. We bought lunch and tea for $7. BONUS!
Again looking for jobs but also looking for a sola panel for the fridge in the van because we couldnt afford $50 for electric hook up. Yeah this was a
dream, $1,000 we would have had to pay. No way. I found a cheaper pair of shoes for $60. Yay.
My phone needed to be charged so we went into the bar and asked them to plug this in for us while we waited and had a drink. i need it to be charged because of handing our resume's out, an employer might phone us.
Subway - Nathan has a trial in Subway on Sunday. Nathan's is 11 - 1am.
Oh I forgot to mention that I had a cold shower this morning on the side of the beach.
We had left over cheese and Ritz biscuits so we had this with a glass of goon sitting outside by a BBQ area. After this we drove to our little spot, crept in "stelf" style and this is where we slept for the night.
Sat 18th
This morning I got up and went for a run along the beach and back along the path at 7am. I felt so good after!
I had a shower on the side of the beach and I had to shave my arm pits and wash my hair, which I had a few funny looks from
the public. Why did I do this, ha ha becausen I can.
Sun 19th
Nathan had a trial at Subway this morning. We both cannot believe he could be working in Subway. It's so easy and looks like it could be a lot of fun. The manager is from London so hopefully that will score bonus points for him.
that afternoon we went for a surf, this built my confidence up because surfing in a different country when the waves are so much powerful, bigger and just perfect can be daunting for a beginner. I have to practice paddling because I have lost the strength in my arms and trying to get outback is nearly impossible.
Spoke to Kelly as it was her b'day today. that was nice and then spoke to our parents on skype but because Skype wasn't working great we had to use the calling facility instead of the video call. I was gutted because I really wanted to see them as feeling a little homesick.
Mon 20th
Went for my morning run at the side of the beach and for my shower at the side of the beach. It's actually quite refreshing.
The off to the
library to charge the ipods, camera, computer and phone because we were still roughing it at the side of the road.
Last night Nathan found that one of the BBQ's had boiling water and an electrical socket point there, ideal for free. FREE, that is my favourite price.
We the phone taht Scott has lent us dies on us so it was time to get a new one.
A guy that was next to us at the library was reading his booked and the next time we looked around he was snoring his head off with his mouth wide open. he was making so much noise the librarian woke him up.
I do not know how by Nathan has turned into more of a janner since we have been away as he has started to say sem and elem instead of seven and eleven. What is that all about.
We got a bargain for a tea again, 8 sausages, 4 bits of steak and 4 lamb steak for $8. We were true travellers and made the most of the situation as it was raining but we still had our bbq. Lol
Tues 21st
1 sausage and a bit of bread for
breakfast from the left over bbq we had the night before. yum yum yum.
Off to the world of the library today to look for more jobs and trying to upload more pics on blog.
We stayed in the library all day. It took 4 of those hours to upload the pics of Fiji on the blog and still missed out 200. What a load of rubbish!!
