Sat 4th
I woke up at 7am so 3 hours sleep is not enough for 15 hours drinking. We had showers and the sat in the shade until we had to depart to go to the airport. Back to Auckland for the night and to see Arnie and Claire for the night.
Terry, Nath and I were on the same flight to Auckland and then on the same flight to Cairns.
It was lovely to see Arnie and Claire again and it just felt like we had arrived back home again and we had been on holiday. Bless Arnie he made pasties for our dinner and again they were huge, only could eat half of it though.
Sun 5th
Arnie and Claire took us to the airport where we met Terry agian.
5 hours and 40 minutes flight to Cairns. Im in Cairns but it actually reminds me of America. We searched the shops and found a bar with free internet, so we could start looking for a camper van. Well one thing led to another and we stayed for a few drinks and then made our way back to our hostel where there is a night club under the accommodation.
Mon 6th
Hangovers all round! We bought a Vodafone sim card for $32 which gives you free calls Vodafone to Vodafone and then cheaper call to the UK.
Booked snorkelling for Tuesday on the Great Barrier and we got a free dive with this. Again we searched for a camper and they came to show us the van but it was so old and was so hard to drive. There were only three gears and nearly impossible to use. The van was perfect in the living area but that was it!
Tues 7th
Up at 6am ready to get our bus to take us to the boat for our trip. My first ever dive- Fab!!! When I got in the water and tried to breath through the breathing apporators but found it really hard. I think it was the fact of breathing fully submerged under water. I was breathing so fast I started to panic so I signled t the guide to go up to the surface. He said to me to trust him, everything is fine and to breath slower. So he told me to follow him down the rope so that we could practice our techniques of flooding
my mask, taking my breathing aporator out of my mouth whilst exhaling then outting it back in my mouth again and then blowing the water out of my regulator and then recovering my regulator as if it had fallen out of my mouth and then putting it back in agian. I got the hang of it and we went down the rope for 7 metres and every metre equalising my ears. Our guide then thought that all four of us were ok to leave the rope and swim iut into the open water over the reef. We saw a massive fish which was prob the size of me. This day was the best!!
Wed and Thurs
The last two days we have been trying to buy a camper van. we have viewed a couple but none of them really worth buying.
Fri 10th
We woke early and got straight on the case to get a camper again but nothing online or on the notice boards so we both decided to make the decision and move to Brisbane where there was a camper we saw online. So we made arrangements with the owner to meet us at the airport. And so
our flights were booked , yes, so ok we will miss the Whitsundays but hopefully we shall do this after Perth.
So what else was there to do that night apart from celebrate, because for 6 days now we had been searching high and low for a camper van and now we had one - well not technically yet but but it just felt like we have made progress because we have been stuck in one place for so long.
Sat 11th
Today was the last day in Cairns so we just chilled all day by the lagoon sunbathing. Also our last night with Terry, Sofie and Niamh. So a bbq we had by the lagoon with a box of goon. Goon is wine in OZ. This is what all the backpackers drink as its hurrendously cheap but gives you a stinking hangover. Anyway who cares we are backpackers not flash packers.
Sat night at the party palace 'Gilligans' Sofie and Niamh went out at 11 and Terry left at 11.45 and caught his bus to his next stop. Saying good bye to Terry felt really weird because we had been with him for such a long time and in
three different countries.
Could I sleep that night, could I hell. The musice was pumping, we had people coming in and out of our room and knowing that we had to get up at 3am to get our flight to Brisbane
